MSY - Patriot Supersonic Pulse 8GB USB3 Drive - $7 (50% off, until 21/4 Only)

610

Turns out the deal is actually legit and MSY made the date error on their website.

Patriot Supersonic Pulse 8GB USB3.0 drive for $7 at MSY, usual price $14. Great for anyone looking for a cheap USB drive. USB3 is a bonus.

The banner on their site says 20/21 March (which is why I thought I read the deal wrong and wanted this post deleted) but this confirms it as MSY's mistake and not mine: http://www.facebook.com/msytech/posts/357437580970214. MSY's dodgy website strikes again lol.

Check for stock at your local store either online or by calling them before you head down.

  • how on earth do you do a stock check online?

    • http://www.msy.com.au/index.jsp , and in the top right change the branch to the one closest/most convenient to you. It's a clearance item though so might not show up, so if you can't find it online call your local branch.

      • hmm the only result of any use is a pdf file which lists this as $12.

  • anyone know why it says march?

    • lol yeah but it can't be a friday cause the 30/3 this year was a tuesday.

  • Just picked up a few, thanks

    • how much was delivery ?

    I'm confused…

  • can any one actually post the link for this?
the people claim that they bought some, are you sure you didnt buy a usb2.0 instead of a 3.0?

    • +1

I think since this is a clearance item it isn't listed in their online inventory i.e. you gotta call them or go into a store to see if they have any.

The people saying they bought some before are just having some fun, since I originally marked this thread for deletion before (see description) :)

usb sticks ar getting cheaper and cheaper……soon u dnt need a hard drive at all….just bring ur usb to boot windows

    • +1

I am waiting for a device where you could plug like 20 x 8GB USB sticks into some kind of adapter thingy. It would look like a sputnik of USB sticks… and you would have a 160GB SSD drive for like errr… $140 (hmmm not that worth it after all)

They used to sell them for memory (DIMMs) in the olden days of 386 computers, etc

Cheap USB3 stick…. for some reason I don't think it'll be any faster than what USB2 is capable of… happy to be proven wrong though.

    • +1

True, you've got a point. When it comes to USB sticks, it's the USB drive that's slow not the USB connection. Unless these are super fast drives, USB3 isn't going to do anything.

      • +1

Glad to see someone else is thinking. would have been worthwhile if the exact usb stick was told so we could check the facts out ourselves… but maybe that would have ruined the bargain. xD

I took this from a customer review on newegg

Pros: Read in USB 3.0 drive = 50MB/s
      Read in USB 2.0 drive = 28MB/s

Cons: Write in USB 3.0 drive = 5.5MB/s
      Write in USB 2.0 drive = 5.5MB/s

  • Can this be price matched at office works or other stores?

    • +1

      If they stock it.

  • Just picked one up from port adelaide. There are HEAPS left.

  • picked up 3 from Auburn - they said they had 50 to shift.

Even if they aren't super fast, good enough to back up photos, and use one to create the OSX Lion installer

  • +2

I know it's a bit late but i can confirm the slow write speed of 5.5MB/s on USB3 :(
    (ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 motherboard)

    • Me too.
Do not buy this thumbdrive expecting USB 3 speeds!
      It's a con.
