Cheapest Canon S100 or reccomend me a cheaper high end camera! (Grey Import)

Looking for a higher end camera and willing to spend around 350-380 ish. I have heard from every source i have gone to that the S100 is simply the best P&S you can buy, but if anyone has a comparable camera for a cheaper price I am open to suggestions.

I dont need a waterproof body or fancy extras like that, just a camera with great image quality (hopefully gps aswell)

  • I don't think the S100 has any good competition at a much cheaper price. Have a look here if you want something different.

  • i suggest move your eyes in interchangeable mirrorless cameras.

Generally have a fine Auto mode, and allow for step ups whenever you have the urge to experiment a little.

I personally went from a P&S to the Sony NEX System, and its quite the step up in quality. You start to learn how to take photos in Aperture mode or Shutter Speed Priority mode with the helpful tips button that act as a flash-card style teacher.

When you note the GPS i assume that you are likely to be travelling?
well, i learnt a nice schedule to follow [with the nex]
    1. morning shots. easy, fast and wobbly hands would probably not affect the quality due to the sunlight and the auto adjustment of shutter speed.
    2. day shots. pretty much as what i said in one. LOVELY sweeping panorama function allows excellent shots of a tropical canopy or a city skyline.
    3. twilight shots. best function i would say. craps ~10-12 burst shots into one providing a clear and sharp twilight shot or low light shot. best with views.
    4. night shots. in general tripods are always the best idea. you can always keep the shutter at 1/60 or + and most hands would be steady enough. with the image stabaliser onboard lens, great shots can happen at ~1/30. be aware dims lights are always issues.

    main functions deducted from that…

Panorama [Sweep]. Quit using that phone with an app, and enjoy good quality panoramas.

    Twilight Burst thing.

    Shutter Speed Priority.

    other things to note;

quirky crap; red only, blue only, yellow only, green only, b&w, toy camera, etc.

[Nex-5n] Touchscreen. Makes for a smartphone style focus selection.

beautiful screen to check back on your photos.

lightweight when compared to DSLRs because Sony has shoved an image sensor the same size as a dSLR.

yes, that did sound like a commercial/salesrep either way i just really like the nex series. Go to youtube for more indepth reviews of the NEX series.

Only thing that NEX cameras dont have is the GPS, but i half-ish looked into that and you can use this really expensive SD card called an eye-fi or something that uses wifi signals to detect where you are.

Oh and Nex-C3 is the slightly dumber version and [not being sexist] more feminine in style with its curves.

Nex-5n is typically the main product. If you have the moolah go with the NEx-7. but by that moolah you can probably get tut tut tut or tsk tsk tsk from some Nikon/Canon/Panasonic fanboys.

  • it's about $322 here but not sure if it is a reliable place : (some people on whirlpool forum have purchased from there seem happy with it. Plus Im sure u can find discount coupons as well)
