Was going to post this the other day when the price was US$39.99 and noticed it's been reduced to US$27.42 as part of today's 'Super Buys' sale.

Possibly one of the cheapest capacitor dash cams on the market from a reputable brand. As a price comparison selling for $98 at Kogan, $80 at Catch and $89 at Amazon

Had one mini long ago, it kept killing my sd cards. All bad memories.

    • This is the new version, not the same as the one released in 2016

      • I had already put this brand into my blacklist. Yes, forever

        • +2

I had ddpai mini, mini 3 and now mini5, all working perfectly. Also have number of friends been using them for years. No issues.

Just because you had one bad experience, dont write them off! They are a good product. Issues unfortunately happen with any brand.

          • -1

            @Omarko: That's my choice.

Besides killing the sd cards, it also got other issues, such as on and off while in use. Buy from Australia you will hardly get any warranty, and buy from aliexpress, you still need to pay TAX and delivery which add up the cost.

            • @Dearest77: You may be using the wrong cards for dashcam or fake cards. They are also consumable (I have a blackvue and it goes through them every so often as its 24/7 writing to a card)

  • Curious about these dashcams. Will having a recording of someone being at fault if I'm involved in an accident, really release me from all fault and enable me to get them to repair my car? or is it just to capture fun footage on the road?

    • Well, not if you are at fault.
In most cases, dash cams provide sufficient evidence to determine who was at fault, saves you in those situations where other driver denies liability or flat-out lies.

Your insurance company would be the judge of that.

      • Yup.

    • +2

Had a claim a few years ago. The dashcam footage turned the insurance company's narrative from "We'll have to determine fault, it might be an each-way claim" to "What a d-head! Yeah, you're fine - go get your car fixed and we'll sort it out".

Obviously the other guy claimed something different happened because his insurance company chased me up sometime later. I provided the footage again and unsurprisingly I never heard from them again.

        This is the proper answer.

When two parties say opposite things, without any witnesses it's up to the insurance companies to make a decision.

        Video footage negates that.

Crap, i guess i still need to sort out getting insurance then. Thanks for the feedback!

@pichxlonco: uhh, you should always have insurance. Unless you're driving around in an absolute bomb and you just have the (mandatory) third party insurance?

            • @[Deactivated]: That's the thing, i only use my car twice a week because i work from home. Guess I'll have to look for a cheap car insurance just for peace of mind

    Good. Need one

    • -1

Why, do you have lots of crashes?

  • Do you have link for the hardwirekit ?

    • +2

Catch has the hardwire kit for $19.30, cheaper than AliExpress unless you combine it with the dashcam and use an AliExpress coupon for further discounts.

      • Thank You!

      • Which coupons? :)

        • Was referring to these, but after checking they seem to be expired now.

Also, just realised that you can't combine the dash cam and hardwire kit to meet the US$30 minimum spend anyway. The 'Super Deals' can't be added to cart, only has the 'Buy Now' option.

      • Might be incompatible. Your links has a USB connection to the device while the post here has some sort of headphone looking jack

        • +1

They're both micro USB Type-B ports. The Type-B port is located on the mount, not the dashcam.

Also both listings specifically state hardwire kit is compatible with the ddpai Mini. Does NOT work for Mini3, Mini5, Mola N3, Mola Mini5 and MiniONE.

  • Showing as $39.57 for me

    • AliExpress adds GST at checkout

      • My bad, had Display Language at AUD not USD as OP

  • Does it support a rear camera?
Do I even need a rear camera?

    • This model doesn't. The ddpai Z40 is the next cheapest with rear cam.

Also you can buy two mini's and mount one at the rear if you don't want to spend extra for the Z40, although Z40 should have better front cam picture quality.

    • get a rear camera if you can. you can't always park with the back of your car against a wall and should someone reverse into the back of your car….

    • you don't really need a rear camera, but definitely need a front camera. i reverse park 99.9% of the time.

  • Thanks OP. Got two

  • hi op - semi related question - where on aliexpress can you view the 'Super Buys' sale…. i cant find any other items listed as super buys - is there a dedicated page?

    • My bad, used to be called 'Super Buys' now replaced with 'Super Deals'. Click on 'Super Deals' on the AliExpress home page or via the App.

      • interesting - i have "flash deals" "weekly deals" and "top ranking" - and when i click on weekly deals it shows "super value deals"…. with the DDPAI Mini 1080p not listed on any of those pages

        go figure…

  • Question: do you know if this dashcam 'prefers' any particular brand of SD card?

    • Haven't seen any mention of preferred SD card for this dash cam.

Samsung usually gets recommended over SanDisk, although I've found both to be pretty reliable over 10+ years running four separate front and rear cams in two cars.

      • Thanks - I guess I will go with Samsung

        • -1

          SanDisk > samsung

i never heard of anyone recommending samsung over SanDisk who created the SD card. SD = SanDisk

I always and only buy SanDisk

          • +3

@Hugh G Rection: Actually SD stands for Secure Digital, just a FYI they were also invented and bought to market by Toshiba. SanDisk really only bought in marketing in different demos

      • evo+ or pro endurance ?

        • +1

          EVO+

Unrelated but if there was a fake one punch man manga, his shirt would say 'DDPAI'

  • how does this compare to the 70mai dashcam?

    • +1

This one is cheaper and has a capacitor rather than battery.

  • +1

comes up 43.53 AUD for me :(

    • Same here…
