I have my eyes on a Sony XR65X90J but am concerned it will be too large given my viewing distance in my apartment is only about 1.5 metres. The TV size guides tend to say I need around 2.4 metres viewing distance for this size TV. Does anyone have any advice based on personal experience before I go to a showroom to view it in person?
Is a 1.5 M Viewing Distance Too Short for a 65" TV?
Comments
Yeah, way too close. Your eyes are gonna start hurting after a min or two
In short Yes
1.5m away would maybe be a 50 inch max.
And if you want to fry retinas go bigger but you'll end up turning your head to take in the imageMy recliner is less than 2m from 65" TV and I don't have an issue with it at all. Different people are different, don't rely purely on paper calcs.
That's not really a helpful response. Sitting at 2m is different from sitting at 2.5m (guidelines) or 1.5m (ops case). The give or take 0.5m makes a difference due to physics, not paper calcs
<2m is less than 2.5m suggested paper calc and is perfectly fine with me.
1.5m for OP is less than 2.5m suggested and may be fine for them too.
So standing in front of TV is less than 2.5m suggested and maybe fine for anyone too.
Nvm the logic.
May as well just jump straight to VR lol
You need a new house OP
Yes if you want the iMAX experience.
Walk into a store, walk 1.5m from the TVs, see which one you prefer.
Don't ask the internet, while there are guides everyone is different. However I'd go smaller just because that seems overkill and you get to save some cash going smaller.
The content displayed on store TV's will most likely be better resolution than most FTA channels.
There is science!!

Seems min 2 meters for a 'cinema' experience. For 1.5m it recommends 50" telly.
What the phvuck
I am around 2.5m from my 65" TV for general video watching, but I sit closer when playing games. 1.5m is watchable, but I can't see the entire screen clearly. Do you like watching movies from the front row or the back? I agree with what other people have said about going into a store and seeing if you like it yourself. You might find 48-55" to be more suitable.
get the measurements of the tv
stick some magazine pages together to match the size
stick on wall or cabinet (it will be even close as the tv will be slightly thicker)sit in couch and have a look whether you think you have issues (like can you see all the screen without moving) is the writing readable cause you are so close
also is that 1.5m from the front of the couch, back of the couch? 1.5 from your head from where u are sitting
how is your couch configured, L shape? narrow, wide, alot of different factorsGet the TV, then look for an OzB deal on the new home.
I've been dreaming of a 65'' screen in my ensuite, but someone finally did it!
Yep, way too close.
I just positioned myself 1.5m from my 65".
It is waaaaaay too close.
Just tried 1.5m with 50" in the bedroom.
That's quite ok.
