Silver In the Wood - Emily Tesh
There is a Wild Man who lives in the deep quiet of Greenhollow, and he listens to the wood. When Greenhollow Hall acquires a handsome and intensely curious new owner in Henry Silver, everything changes.

All Systems Red - Martha Wells
As a heartless killing machine, Murderbot has been a complete failure. Addicted to soap operas and scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. Emotional connections are…inconvenient.

I haven't read any of these, but I'm expecting them to be a step up from some of the Amazon freebies.
Murderbot is excellent, definitely recommend. Only a novella, but there are several other short stories in the same set and now a full novel that follows on. They might have released a compendium of the short stories, can't recall.
Pretty sure Silver in the Wood is another short story that's precisely been released free by Tor, it was pretty good too from memory.
FYI if you do sign up to Tor's mailing list, they aren't too bad with spam, one email a week or so with interesting articles and some free short stories, and occasionally they will make a full novel free to subscribers (usually to promote a new story from the same author). But worthwhile.
