Optus mvno options

So I'm currently on the $59/80gb telstra plan from the good guys which came with a $500 gift card which we made good use of, so was a good deal and basically meant I've paid $17.33 a month.

But then I'm a really light user, as most if my phone use is in WiFi. Looking at previous months I've averaged only 3.5 - 5.5gb per month.

I've also been disappointed as my colleagues on optus get better reception than I do at work.

So thinking of swapping to an optus mvno for this year. Are any known to be much better or worse than the other as far as the customer experience? Thinking of getting a 12month amaysim sim which is 60gb with 1yr expiry for $99. Seems great for my use unless someone can think of something better for my case!

  • Does it need to be an Optus NVMO?
If you are fine with the Telstra Wholesale network, and shop at Woolworths, check on their $150 1yr Prepaid plan - you also get 10% off of one shop per month.
Otherwise, Amaysim are really good (Uses Optus) but not as much data for the 1 yr plan

Post says "my colleagues on optus get better reception than I do at work"

      • Skipped that, been a long day.

OP could try using WiFi Calling while at work? Some workplaces may block that tho or not allow mobile devices on the network

Speaking of which, Amaysim do not support WiFi calling, or VoLTE. So if those are important, then Amaysim might not be the best option. Reception could also mean data reception/speed.

        • I'm a teacher, so rather not use the school WiFi as it then blocks certain sites such as reddit, which is often a good little escape during lunch break!

  • Yes you should get that one.

  • I am with Coles. It's great value. It often goes on offer of $99 for 60gb/365 days.

Coles isn't a MVNO, so doesn't meet OP's requirements. Having said that, I'm on Optus's Coles plan ($120/120GB/365d) and am very happy with it. Seems the best value plan that includes international calls and text.

      • Yes, they are. What do you think MVNO means?

        • It means (at least to me) a third party is using the service of a mobile network. For example, Kogan using Vodafone, Aussie BB using Optus. Coles Mobile customer are customers of Optus Mobile Pty Limited. As there is no third party involved, they fail the 'V' part of MVNO.

@st1ng: Your unique take on that aside, do you think the OP wanted it to be MVNO for some obscure reason like that, or because they get better Optus reception? No need to answer, it's rhetorical. My point is that Coles would meet their requirements. The main reason for wanting MVNOs would be that they're usually cheaper.

      • If Cole's isn't an MVNO, what are they?

        • A brand of Optus, just like Gomo is. Coles Mobile customers are customers of Optus Mobile Pty Limited. As opposed for example Aussie Broadband mobile customers who are customers of Aussie BB, but use the Optus mobile network.

  • Is this the same Optus that recently appointed a new senior ex-politician into a made up role, the very same politician that is under investigation for corruption and quit her job due to public pressure for doing such a shit job at handling a crisis?

You happy to give money to Optus knowing that they made up a job just to help out a failed politician known for corruption?

Most people care more about mobile signal than virtue signal.

    • I'm currently with telstra, but work in a location that has terrible (1 bar of 3g) service. My colleagues at least get 3 bars of 4g who are on optus.
