  • Casiotone? Seen it at Costco.

  • Casio Privia PX160 Digital Piano.

My daughter is learning piano and this was what was recommended to us by the teacher. It has proper piano weighted keys and an action that feels identical to a real piano. Sounds like a real piano as well. Is pretty slim line and doesn't take up any space. It isn't a cheap, nasty unit though. You cant just chuck it in a cupboard and get it out when you need it, it's really solid and quite heavy.

Another good point is that you can plug your headphones in and go to town on it and makes virtually no noise. I plug my iPad into ours and use some piano tutorial apps for the daughter to practice with in virtual silence.

They are about $800, but for what you get and how it feels and sounds, it is well worth the investment. If you can wait, they often come up in the 10~20+% off sales on eBay and are not usually in the typical price jacked categories.

  • You could just get a midi keyboard and plug it into an iPad, then you can use any voices you want, there's even a Moog synth app.

  • Kawai es110 or Yamaha p125.
