10% off Your Selected Product Groups at Coles (Needs Flybuys & $50 Spend)

290

Whatever the price, get 10% off everyday on 5 products when you spend over $50 in store. From Monday 23 April onwards.

  • it is limited to only 5 items per transaction, per day, so you can't get a discount on more than 5 items e.g. if you buy two bottles of milk plus 4 other discounted items, only 5 of those 6 purchases will get a discount.
  • It also needs to be set up at least 3 days in advance before you'll get the discount, and then once you've set it up, you can't change them
  • e.g. in the case of the meat mentioned above, there's a 5kg maximum
  • All 5 selections need to be set up before you'll get the discount e.g. you can't think I just want the discount on x now, and next week I'll decide on something else to add
  • there's a $50 minimum spend before you get the discount
  • it also expires 31 October, so not a long term offer

Not sure if this is a bargain until you can compare a product. Sometimes 10 percent off in the meat section is not yet a bargain as you can get it cheaper with a butcher shop.

    • +1

Not at any butcher shops near where I live.

      • +3

Depends if you want to compare watery pre-packed meat to nicely dry aged well chosen meat.

        • +1

I 100% agree. you can't beat a quality butcher over the rubbish they pass off in the big 2 supermarkets. Ohh but hang on it is hormone free….sigh.

    • Hard marker - you don't have to choose meat as your top 5 - just choose something you do buy regularly and get 10% off the price you would otherwise pay.

Seems a pretty damn good deal to me.

  • I think the biggest bonus is from monday you get a point every dollar you spend instead of 2 points for every $5, plus your points no longer expire and you use your new flybuys card as a gift card when you get enough points( if you select to redeem with money)

    • +2

As the value of the points isn't stated, this may not be a bargain. In this particular case, I think they're keeping the same rewards (or at least making it so that points never expire), but in a rewards program the points per dollar doesn't matter without knowing the dollars per point.

For example, I'll offer you a rewards scheme that gives you 100 points per dollar spent. Sounds great? Well not if if you need 100,000,000 points to claim a $100 reward.

      • +1

I went to Coles last night and the cashier asked me if I want to claim my flybuys points for $10 discount. I said yes and when I checked the coles credit card site, $10 is 2000 points which is like saying $100 = 20000 points. Previously I can claim $100 coles gift card for 12500 points. This is a very deceiving marketing plot. It would be interesting to check on monday how many points is required for $100 coles gift card. If it goes up then this new marketing is very deceiving as they offer more points but then they have increased the number of points to claim something.

        • before the flybuys.com.au lockdown; a $20 coles giftcard was 2500 points

        • +1

          Lockdown!? … Nooooooooo! >.<

      • Think the new base value is about 1/2 cent per point!

      • +1

Sneaky buggers locking it down. Hopefully it will be the same of better value to get gift cards but if they have effectively increased the required spend there will be a lot of disappointed existing Flybuys customers as their points will have been devalued.

        • +1

          I phoned flybuys this morning…

          • to redeem rewards the points requirement has increased.
          • existing flybuys points will be multiplied to ensure they can redeem the same value of rewards

Woolworth's "Everyday Rewards " BS programmers will have to pull their fingers out as the

    "earn points after $ 30.00 spend "

always annoyed the hell out of me and Im certain -Im not alone

In the future I`ll do all my " top up shopping " now @ COLES - and why not move all my business to Coles until the Woolworth people wake up ?

    • -2

at coles you'll need to spend at least $50 to get the 10% off…

    • What's the minimum spend to get Flybuys points at Coles?

(For earning points this is, not the minimum spend for this particular deal).

      • Generally it was $5 for the average Flybuys user

        • Damn, I've been missing out on points then. I always assumed it was the same as Woolworth.

There are a lot more conditions to the above offer, including that:
    - it is limited to only 5 items per transaction, per day, so you can't get a discount on more than 5 items e.g. if you buy two bottles of milk plus 4 other discounted items, only 5 of those 6 purchases will get a discount.
    - It also needs to be set up at least 3 days in advance before you'll get the discount, and then once you've set it up, you can't change them
    - e.g. in the case of the meat mentioned above, there's a 5kg maximum
    - All 5 selections need to be set up before you'll get the discount e.g. you can't think I just want the discount on x now, and next week I'll decide on something else to add
    - there's a $50 minimum spend before you get the discount, so harribo's comment isn't correct for this offer, actually it's worse than Woolies!
    - it also expires 31 October, so not a long term offer.

Title: "10% off Your Selected Product Groups"
(i.e. "Bread", "Milk" or even "Drygoods", "Perishables")

    Description: "5 products"

    Which is it?

    • +1

      Its for 5000 selected items
This way its easier for Coles to get their money back (your 10% saving) from the suppliers…

      • My question was more like: Do you choose 5 products or product GROUPS to get a 10% discount on.

        • "The my5 discount will apply to purchases of up to five items from each of your selected five Product Groups per day."

So you choose 5 product groups then get a discount of up to five items from each group, so potentially 25 items.

Purely based on my personal shopping experience: SOME of the weekly specials aside - thanks mygrocery.com - there are few, if any, bargains in Coles or Woolies - they are very expensive.

A walk around any Aldi store and a good market would dispel any doubts.

If you want to pay over the odds for points, packaging, brands and advertising go to Coles & Woolies. If you want to pay low prices look elsewhere.

(and yes I do buy some stuff at Coles and Woolies, but as a last resort)

    • +1

We don't have any Aldis or anything else nearby. I have a Woolies 50m north and a Woolies 100m East of my apt.

      • Wow - that IS a 'captive customer' :) . I appreciate Aldis (and good markets) aren't everywhere, I am lucky to live near one and Vic Market (only go to the good stalls!).

        • +1

Wish WA would get Aldi's already!

    • +1

Based on my personal experience some of the Aldi alternative branded products taste like crap - I prefer the known brand products in about 2/3 of cases.

Therefore unless I was buying meat, milk or one of the 1/3 products I actually like at Aldi I'd avoid that joint…

  • Flybuys or Everyday Rewards are useless by themselves. I reckon they need to be connected to a credit card with the same rewards to make them worthwhile.

It will be interesting to see what the return rate is on this new scheme.

  • OK; assuming that your products are $5 each, 5 x $5 = $25. Your discount of $2.50 is 5% if you spend exactly $50.

This requires a lot of planning to get a 5% discount!

    • +3

that is true, but would u like no offer at all? I think this offer is great, just like all those high interest accounts, they need some work to get, but its well worth it.

  • Just make sure you choose something you can buy in bulk and store like toilet paper.

  • We shop once a fortnight. We buy most of our groceries at Aldi, then get only a few things from either Woolworths or BiLo (Coles). We only spend about $20-$30 at WW/Coles. Meat is always cheaper at Aldi. Coles sometimes have cheap meat, but we haven't bought meat from WW in over a DECADE. Same with fruit & veg 99% of the time, and all the homebrand products like breakfast cereal, flour, jam, milk, milk powder, toilet paper, tissues… are the same price at all three. Other items (jelly crystals, maple syrup) are less than half price. Then battered or raw fish, prawns, ice cream… are slightly cheaper.

Dumb WW & Coles are fighting the wrong competitor - and when they do - they make it so complicated (like this new thing) who can be bothered.

  • What

  • -1

Well if you spent $100 on the old system you would gain 40 points. On this new system you will gain 100 points so its over double the old points which even if the rewards are a bit higher you still should be able to build them up quickly if your a weekly shopper at coles

  • Coles exclusively released their product list to News Limited for some promotion today: http://media.dailytelegraph.com.au/files/my5-Families.xlsx

Unfortunately, they didn't keep their word on actually offering it for product groups e.g. where you can select the product and get different sizes. You are instead restricted to a specific size for products.

  • I just checked my flybuys points and it has increased equivalent to the points required to claim some gift cards. A lot of big amount items I buy is not included in the 10% discount. Some are ok but I wouldn't be putting 10% off on small amount as it is not maximizing the benefit.

  • I think my top 5 will need to be 5 of these

Arnott's Wagon Wheels and TeeVee Snack Biscuits 175 -250g packs
    Bosistos Eucalyptus Oil 200mL
    Coles Baby Wipes and Refills
    Coles Frozen Meals 320 - 400g packs
    Comfy Bots Baby Wipes
McCain Red Box Frozen Meals 320g packs
Pepsi & Schweppes Soft Drinks 24 can packs (Pepsi, Solo, Sunkist)
Schweppes Soft Drinks 1.25L (Pepsi, Solo, Sunkist)

    • "Coles Frozen Meals 320 - 400g packs"

Do you know what is in those?

  • Flybuys sucks now; before the revamp, it was 2500 points = $20 giftcard

    Now, it's 2000 points = $10 giftcard

    • Yeah, but your existing points were multiplied to ensure your current points give the same redmeption rate…

also your new earn rate is higher to compensate.

So all up, its the same amount of spend to redeem the same amount of points.
