Leatherman OHT Coyote One-Handed Multi-Tool Knife w/ Molle Sheath for $118.30 + Shipping (Free with OnePass) @ Catch

490

Sigh. After the reckless spending on Knipex recently, time to add to my growing Leatherman multi-tool collection. Yes, I can justify this to myself saying "this will last forever and I can pass it down to my grand kids".

There were a few deals recently and one of the commenters said they've been pretty much just using their OHT since it's so convenient to operate with one-hand. So I guess this one is a must for me.

Seems to be a good deal as lowest price on 3 camels was $121.48 in 2020 for the black version, and current price for coyote version Amazon is $196.59.

Some marketeer blurb about the product:

For years, multi-tool users could choose from two distinct options when it came to a "one-hand-operable" multi-tool: one-hand-opening pliers or one-hand-opening blades. Today, Leatherman has taken these two well-loved ideas and fused them into the first ever, 100% one-hand-operable multi-tool, the Leatherman OHT!

All these Leatherman posts are going to end in my divorce!

    • +14

spouse: i want the leatherman tools

      you:oh my god

  • +3

Love how OzB just discovered leatherman deals on Catch. But in all fairness they are quality products still reasonablly priced with the inflation wave that's hitting

    • +6

I've bought about 9 from there when they are on sale using discounted GC. But my favourite and the one i carry daily is the cheapest. The Skeletool KBX is just so compact, light and so well designed. It's also on sale.

      • +1

Thanks for flagging - currently $48 on Catch. Would you recommend picking up for this price?

        • +2

Yes, this is the lowest you will likely ever find it. If you want a sharp compact knife that's light, and adds no bulk to your pocket it's an excellent knife for the money.

          • +1

@LowRange: Not a multitool though. Personally I have the normal Skeletool and it's great, but if I didn't want the pliers then I'd use the Gerber Armbar which is also small and light but has a bit driver.

            • @macrocephalic: Yes i have the normal Skeletool also, great tool. I just find it a bit bulky to carry on me daily.

I have various Leathermen multi-tools in the cars, 4wd, shed and bedside table so i'm never too far away from one if i need something other then a knife. But the Skeletool KBX is the one that never leaves my pocket.

Edit: The Gerber Armbar is a great compact tool too, i dont own one but from what i've seen they are good. I think though they are about 3 times the weight of the Skeletool KBX.

              • +1

                @LowRange:

                never leaves my pocket.

It's not very useful in that case, is it? ;)

How does it compare to the Gerber Paraframe Mini or Paraframe?

                • +3

@eug: The Gerber mini isnt as well made, the steel doesnt seem quite as good, edge retention is less then the Leatherman.

And with the Gerber the framelock is a bit tight, and the tiny fingernail slot means one hand opening is harder. The Leatherman is smoother, great blade and with the large semi-circle cutout in the blade it makes it a lot easier to one hand open.

Is the Skeletool worth twice the cost of the Paraframe mini, i guess it depends.

BTW i just snapped a pic of my Skeletool and Skeletool KBX as comparison. Hard to judge by the pics but the weight and bulk difference is fairly substantial.

              • @LowRange: The armbar slim drive is slightly less than twice the weight, but you're talking 70g vs 35g. Both weigh less than most men's watches. Personally the knife blade on the skeletool is the one thing I find disappointing, I don't like the half serrated blade, but I didn't want to pay close to twice as much for the CX with the straight blade.

OP, when will you get to a point of having enough to pass onto grand grand kids?

    • +1

At least that's what I keep telling myself!

  • +1

Can't fault a leatherman for quality. Saddest moment of my career when I lost my Wave.

    • +3

hope it was not to the airport security like silly me…

      • 🙏

A part of me died when the airport seccy unceremoniously binned my Wave…

        • "Binned" put it in a container that they'll scavenge through later.

I used to work for an airline, and recall going to one of the regionals and they had a plastic tub filled with scissors, batteries, aerosols, clippers, etc. There was nothing good left in it.

  • +6

Really want to get one of these. Not because I need it, just because it looks cool.

  • +1

    Fantastic tool. Highly recommend.

FWIW Im fairly sure leatherman still has lifetime warranty? It was a really good experience going through with them when my OG Wave had issues with the pliers.

    • +3

Yeah. I recently had them replace something for me because I'd broken a tool misusing it. 25 years warranty last time I looked at their website.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I really didn't think I'd buying a Leatherman today. With a Charge (titanium), multiple Waves and a Wingman, I figured this wouldn't offer much different. Watched the short video and I was sold!

    • +3

God damn it I have two waves- an OG and a plus, and thought man - how awesome could it possibly be that this dude who already has 4+ leathermen would buy this.

      Watched first video on YouTube

      You son of a bit*h - I’m in.

      • +1

        Haha. I know right?!

  • +3

I used the OHT daily for work for about 8 years. Can highly recommend.

Best thing I can recommend is if you need a knife, carry a cheapie standalone Gerber knife, as the knife in the OHT is a bit small.

Also the MOLLE holster is trash. I spent some proper money on a Skinth

    • Can you remember which Skinth you went with? Their chooser tool doesn't have the OHT as an option and I'm not too familiar with the sizes of other leatherman tools.

My original leatherman holster has about had it after a year and a half.

      • +1

Honestly it was about 7 years ago, but from looking at their website I'm pretty sure it was the Skinth Plus with the following options.
        - D ring down the bottom
        - normal Velcro loop

I'd highly recommend getting the external knife/pen straps.

Interestingly enough, the Skinth XL has a photo of an OHT in it.

  • +1

Bit the bullet, was looking for a good multi-tool.

  • +1

The #2 Philips driver in this is has a long slim 4cm shaft compared to the stubs in many other models. Makes it more useful for me.

  • +2

Serious question, I love well made well engineered tools. Has anyone actually used theirs? Do you use it exclusively in your place or do you carry it with you wherever you go? Do you carry it in your pocket? Wouldn't one multi screwdriver and plier/cutter be better?

    • +2

Use mine minimum 5 days a week.

    • +1

You do need to be careful carrying them in public as they are technically illegal to carry in some states. I carry mine on me when I'm camping etc and use it all the time. I also use it a lot around the house.

I have a Wave+ which has interchangeable screw driver bits and wire cutters, amongst other things. That's most useful to be, but everyone is different.

    • I carry it every day at work, and use it pretty often. While it would be better to have a standalone knife and pliers the convenience of having it all in one tool, with every tool accessible with one hand makes this my absolute favourite multitool. I've still got a Skeletool CX use for a slimmer tool, but where I can I use the OHT.

It's pretty chunky, so I carry it in the provided belt pouch, but the pouch is getting worn out after a year and a half of 5 day/week carry. Very unlikely you'd be able to carry it in a pocket comfortably.

Another important note is if you don't lock the pliers closed (can still be done with one hand) they tend to slip out and slowly wear a hole in the pouch.

      • Another important note is if you don't lock the pliers closed (can still be done with one hand) they tend to slip out and slowly wear a hole in the pouch.

Mine wore a hole, I ended up having to store it upside down in the pouch. It's a bit harder to insert as it gets caught on the lock, but it does fit.

Damn. you guys. My first multitool.

  • +3

    DAMN YOU!!!!
    I really don't need another Leatherman…
    ;-)

But guess who just bought another one :-)
Had to have it shipped to work so my wife doesn't notice.

    Thanks OP - great deal!

    • +1

In other news, man/woman gets arrested for shipping weapons to work. Watch the exclusive story on today tonight.

I use the OHT for military purposes and it has done me well. Many years of service. You may need to tighten the star screws once in a while but thats an easy fix.

Protip: Secure it else it will end in a poop pit. IYKYK.

  • I have a Wave+ and Wingman and I really, really don't need this……………………………………………………………………………………….

    • This feels a lot more well-built compared to the Wingman. You'll (probably) love it. :)

    • I have a Charge, multiple Waves and a Wingman and just bought this.

  • Thumbnail reminded me of the babadook will watch it today

  • +1

Bah, hit buy, was out of reception for 5 mins and now it's sold out

    • +1

Looks like it's available again today.

      • +1

        Amazing, thank you.

  • Same, missed out too but now i targeted for $20 coupon…

How is it compared to supertool? If any one got some first hand experience? Thanks

    https://m.catch.com.au/product/leatherman-supertool-300-w-mo…

  • Catch is now telling me that they've refunded my order since they have no stock. I put my order in before I posted the deal here so this must've been a case of them not fulfilling orders in the order they've been received.

  • +1

How do you know the rest got their orders? May be cancelled too

    • Yes, it would be interesting to know. If anyone can update us about their order that would be appreciated.

      • +1

The rebar for $83 is still available if u need a tool. I bought it and pretty happy with it. Not one hand operation tho

        • Thanks. I bought the Surge, Rebar, OHT, Squirt PS4, Super Tool 300 and Wave Plus in the last couple of months. By this point I'm just a hopeless addict!

      • +2

I’ve received an email from Catch saying my OHT has shipped. I purchased mine from the second drop.

        • Thanks! Good to know.
