    Abbott Covid-19 Test Kit $199.95

How much are the Costello ones?

    • -1

Costco ones are the same price $10pt

    • All tip, no iceberg

  • +12

Amazing how expensive these are in Australia. I bought these exact tests in singapore 2 weeks ago for $86 at the airport.

    • +2

So much $$ for the corrupt Big Pharma & conservative Govt :(
      Stay safe & don't overcapitalise

This particular company or are you against every private company?

You are aware that you are free to not purchase stuff from them if you don't like them. They are not forcing you to buy their products.

        • +1

They are not forcing you to buy their products.

Umm. Dear MR FREEMARKET, plenty of places requires mandatory testing, as well as you know, not wanting to spread covid.

    • Bought the same in India for under $80 couple of weeks ago from Amazon.in. Good for the economy, I guess ;-)

      • Do they accept shipping to Australia?

  • +5

I've had enough of these up my nose already.
Kids gave me Covid last week so glad that's done with now.

    • +11

lol did you think u can catch it only once?
i just recovered from it after about 8 days, you can get it again in 2 weeks if you aint careful

      • you can get it again in 2 weeks if you aint careful

you don't need to isolate again though if you catch it again in 2 weeks.

    • Not NT, but NSW considers you have immunity for 1 month. ie you don't need to take RATs/PCRs for 1 mnth after recovery
Numerous other countries considers it for 3-6 months (eg; you can apply to avoid taking PCR/RATs in Singapore if you have recently recovered from Covid in last 90 days)
      Either way you have antibodies.
Much better you have it here and now ( 99.91 % rate to avoid serious outcome for the unvaxxed, 99.996% for vaxxed/antibodies) instead of while on plane to a foreign country!

If they can sell these in boxes of 5 at this price per test and free shipping, then I'm in!

Surprisingly these weren't as sensitive to Covid when I got it several weeks ago. However, it's still a good idea to have a set of these as you will see how quickly you go through them when the family gets Covid.

The "Acceptable Sensitivity" ones from Roche showed up as slightly positive whereas these were were negative in the first couple of days.

Just be aware that the TGA sensitivity ratings are based on claims by the manufacturer and it was primarily for pre-Omicron variants.

EDIT: I've used Panbio, Roche and Innoscreen ones and they've been ok once you're on the way up to the peak of symptoms.

As i understand it, it also is down to technique to be effective.

  • I bought 2 of these boxes for $180 AUD total in Singapore Airport in December. I was there again on Sunday just gone past and they've sold out.

The other tip is to buy them on the WAY OUT of Australia, not on the way in, as I wasn't able to go in the Guardian pharmacy store because of Covid restrictions.
(Or perhaps you can be bold and cut off the green/coloured wrist tag they put around your wrist in the toilet, because this is what they checked)

They supposedly have the highest sensitivity but from my experience, I was still testing negative on the first day where I was showing signs of Symptoms.
I didn't test myself the 2nd day but on the 3rd day I finally tested positive, but my symptoms were already improving a bit by the 3rd day.

I guess where it might add value(?) is that I was testing positive for about 4 days after recovering and showing no symptoms, so it's supposed to prevent scenarios where you're still infectious but showing no symptoms.

Meh I can get this for free

Walked into Officeworks Bourke St this morning and nearly fell over the huge pile of 2 and 5 packs of RATs that they had for sale ($29 and $49 respectively). I think the stock shortages are over an $10/test can no longer be considered a "deal" or a "bargain"…

    • Yeah don't buy to resell, you wouldn't be able to.

There are people locally trying to sell them at $8 and not succeeding because people prefer to get them at the chemist tax deductible

  • +3

Not a deal when you can get for free. Not even remotely a deal. These are around 30 cents to make. Yet the markup is astronomical. Fear driven and market manipulation. Im surprised ozbargin even let these on here.

    • +2

      Capitalism 🙂

    • +3

These are around 30 cents to make.

What about the development costs, staff salaries, costs of logistics and shipping during covid times, insurance, local shipping, and half of that all over again for the local distributor and retailer?

      Yet the markup is astronomical.

Probably not as much as the markup on mass-produced pieces of coloured plastic? ;)

To be fair though, I wouldn't consider $9.99 each a deal either since they've been in the $8.xx region recently.

      • +1

In Europe Aldi (and lots of other supermarket chains) sell tests like these for 1.8 Euro. That's less than $3. That's what a fair price would be here too.

        • I doubt we'll ever get to $3, but I expect we'll see around $5 at Aldi in a couple of months.

  • +1

Hope NSW government continue to hand these out to kids, then go parents can get it for free

    • They are meant to be for the kids to test prior to going to school. Not the parents.

  • seems these and the ALLTEST ones are the only approved SINGAPORE rat tests for approved VTL holidays. Was about to load up until i noticed they sell for $5 a pop there.

  • Sensitive to detect omicron?

  • +2

Seems like the mad rush has subsided. Was just at the chemist and they just had a bunch of RATs sitting on the counter, no-one even looking at them twice. Getting them free through school has made a huge difference in Vic.

    • I've heard toilet paper is the new RAT

  • -1

    Do these RATs shirt-front you?

  • -6

Mine as well put a finger in my bum and smell it. If I can’t smell it then I’m positive. Better result then RAT test and it free

    • If you're negative you should celebrate by making and eating a home cooked dinner with all the works. You definitely deserve it

  • why would any one need that many tests?

I have 5 haven't used one of them and had them for weeks.

  • Can definately verify that these work and are accurate my wife and I took them at same time hers pos mine neg and confirmed same via pcr next morning.

  • 1399 units available at time of posting

now 1395. So in 21 hours only 4 were purchased. Demand is obviously going down at these prices, I would anticipate a massive fall in prices very soon.

  • There are people locally trying to sell them locally in Brisbane FB groups at $8 per test and not succeeding because people prefer to get them at the chemist tax deductible for the same price

I wouldn't buy this unless I needed 20 for the family. You'd be selling the rest at a loss or giving them away free
