I've been looking for some rapid antigen tests that is easy to administer for the the kids as they go back to school. While have been seeing the majority on sale here and in shops are those ones you you put into your nose (nasal swab), which are a bit uncomfortable and the kids hates it. I've been reading the TGA documents, the oral fluid sample tests are just as good. (Claims relating to the accuracy, specificity, sensitivity or limit of detection of the therapeutic goods is not permitted by the TGA.)

Finally found some saliva (oral fluid) tests at a reasonable price out there coming in at $11.25 per test.

      Are you referring to this?

      https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/shop-online/5465/rapid-a…

According to TGA, this brand could not detect Omicron. Only has evidence of performance against Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta variants. Considering Omicron is now the dominant variant, why buy something that couldnt detect it for a few dollar less?

      https://www.tga.gov.au/post-market-review-antigen-and-rapid-…

      • Your link doesn't say that.

        • I really dont have anything else to say rather than for you to read properly.

That Rightsign RAT brand is 4th from the top from that TGA link that I shared in previous post.

If you still cant see it for whatever reason, find the ARTG 333344. If you understand what TGA is trying to say under 'Review Status' column, there is a reason why Omicron is omitted.

          • @kien00: Where does it say it does not detect Omicron?

            • @jv: TGA publish that list to show which brand has evidence of performance against certain covid variant.

If the covid variant is not listed there, you just need to use your brain to know that specific brand has does not have evidence against that variant. Its not rocket science really.

They just said which one each brand can perform. The one that are not listed, no evidence that brand can perform it. Its up to you if you still want to buy having to know this information. Im just sharing it with you so that you are becoming an informed buyer.

              • @kien00: Sounds like you are speculating…

                • @jv: hahaha I will say no more then

              • @kien00: The RAT are approved on an emergency basis with these special conditions. Additional evidence must be supplied within 12 months of approval. The lack of detection data only means the tests are incomplete and so no evidence can be provided at this time.

All COVID-19 tests that are included in the ARTG are subject to additional non-standard conditions, that inform post-market validations as experience and knowledge around COVID-19 diagnostic testing grows. The conditions require that additional evidence to support the ongoing safety and performance of the device be provided to the TGA within 12 months of approval. The TGA will advise sponsors when additional evidence is required to be provided.
