Chair Mats for Carpet - Cheaper Options

I am thinking of buying Chair Mats for Carpets, and found they are expensive. At office works its $55. The cheapest is available at $30. I have 3 chairs, and it would cost me nearly $100. I wanted some suggestion from the elite Ozbargainers alternate or cheaper options. :-)

I must be tired. I thought who is trying to carpet their house with chair mats thinking it would be cheaper. In my mind I was seeing car mats.

    What about this at Bunnings?

    • Yes that is the cheaper one. But Ikea one is value for $

    Ikea. Kolon. $35. They're big.

    • Saw that. I need 3 or more. So, it becomes expensive.

no such thing as a cheap chair matt. thicker pile needs a thicker matt.

if you're on a budget better off buying chair glides and stop rolling around the carpet.

Are you wanting these floor mats for computer/office chairs? If so don't bother wasting money on them use soft caster wheels instead https://www.amazon.com.au/UVII-Wheels%EF%BC%88Set-Replacemen…
These are fantastic they leave no marks and do no damage to the floor
Carpets will always show wear and tear

    • Thanks. I was looking for something on the carpet though. The wheels seems to be for hardwood

I used to buy chair mats but they cracked and failed all too often. I bought some 9mm MDF from bunnings and use that as a chair mat. Works well.

We inherited some cheap looking mats and it now has cracks at various spots.

We bought a couple of mats from Costco and they are very heavy, strong and looks like it last a while. About $60 from memory.

So yeah, I'd recommend Costco ones as they are cheaper in the long run.

Ditto with their kitchen fatigue mats.

    • Will check Costco out. Thanks

Got one from Officeworks a decade ago that's still going - it wasn't cheap but its thick and stays flat

Got some cheaper ones from MyDeal and its night and day the difference - this one can't stay flat at all and got depression spots all over from the wheels

You can easily find offcut carpet on Gumtree or marketplace for free or next to free. Cut into big chair mat size squares.

    • Thanks. I had not thought about this option

  • I would love to know if anyone has seen a Dimex Heavy Duty anywhere recently. I got one from costco a few years ago and it has been amazing. My GF has been through 2 cheaper ones since then that have cracked.

Or, if anyone has an alternative to the Dimex.

    Model number was 621798
