Bought in the Harvey Norman deal. Highly recommended. Added in another 8gb ram and 1tb SSD drive myself was super easy. Plays everything I've thrown at it at 1080p Ultra settings. Forza Horizon 5 and Halo infinite play great.

    • So do you think this is as strong as Xbox series S?

      • +1

Yes it will perform twice as good as the series s, even more using DLSS

  • What’s the usual price?

  • +2

Make sure you reformat the laptop. I don't know why but I went from 2 hrs to 7 hrs after reformatting based on battery life estimation. Others on Reddit recommended same.

    • is this only important if you use the laptop on battery? Got that reddit link handy?

Yea only important if you use it on battery.

@Lionheart: Also as per other thread make sure you replace the 8gb ram in this. The ram inside is usually 1Rx16. I changed to 2 sticks of 8GB that were 1Rx8 and I increased about 30fps in COD WZ at 1080P. Benchmarks show the 1Rx16 causing a significant bottleneck

            • @R3XNebular: Sorry I am confused so do we replace it with 1x16gb or 2x8gb and do we keep the 8gb ram in this or completely replace it with 2 new 8gb ram and sell the original 8gb ram.

              Sorry just need clarification thanks.

@AlienC: He's taking about 1R as in "1 rank". Technical details for how the memory stick is configured.

Essentially he's saying it's slow and cheap ram in this and you should replace it. He's suggesting a much much larger performance hit than id except so it may be a design issue. Definitely worth looking at as 16gb ram isn't super expensive.

            • @R3XNebular: I think mine came with 1 stick of 8gb RAM. I left that in there and simply added another matching 8gb stick.

              Is that what you mean?

      • If something is causing that much battery drain, then I'd highly recommend formatting it either way. That power has to go somewhere, and it's most likely though something hitting thy cpu. Not what you want even on Ac power. Hotter and slower laptop.

Sorry to ask.. Do I have to get windows license to reformat and reinstall windows?

      • +1

        No

    • do you loose the acer optimised power profile if you reformat though? That profile seems to work far better than high performance in terms of keeping temps and throttling balanced.

      • Just download the power utility from Acer website if it doesn’t get reinstalled from OS partition

      • I didn't lose the profile after formatting it was there available. Using a local reformat/reset and wiping everything.

        • Is it difficult to format and reload this laptop? What are the steps? I haven't done this for like 10 years, I'm guessing it's all done via Windows now? I'd like a fresh start with this laptop without all the Acer bloatware on it

          • +1

@Lionheart: I formatted just by search reset on the bottom left taskbar. Came up with the option. Selected reset and delete everything. It doesn't delete all the bloatware if you use the local reinstall. It asks you whether you want to download windows or use local. I used local and it still had bloatware… But my battery life improved so I'm happy. Seen 7hrs 40 mins as my highest estimated battery life. Doubt it'll be that high though probably more 4hrs..

            • @R3XNebular: Hmmm okay, I'm more after how to get a minty fresh install of Windows and start fresh without all the crap on it. Even with 16gb RAM it's still idling at 40% used

              • +1

@Lionheart: Try the download option when you try and reset rather local. Might be a full reinstall without the bloatware

            • @R3XNebular: Good to see you again sir, doing the same same with local reset. Hopefully I'll get the same result as you.
Currently on 1 hour 40 mins hours battery life with nothing running.

              • +1

@Fappy Bunny: Left the laptop 15 mins sitting idle today and came back. Said 10hrs 40 mins left on battery. No way it'd last that long but good to see it increase vs the 2 hrs before lol

                • @R3XNebular: testing with half screen brightness and power mode on battery:better battery (just default setting), 7 hours 10mins.

in comparsion to the 1 hours 40 mins with the exact same default setting, feels good.

                  • +1

@Fappy Bunny: noiiiceee haha I know what you mean. The wife was telling me her 10 year old laptop lasted longer than mine "-_-

                    • @R3XNebular: luckily my laptop is for my missus, battery life doesn't matter cause it's plugged in all the time acting as a desktop.
but knowing the battery life increase means less consumption on the power :') still a good relief on the electric bill, probably not much.

  • Damn missed this one too. Procrastinated on first deal, would have been a good stop gap setup whilst waiting for GPU prices to drop. Plus a spare laptop to use is always handy if and when that finally happens.

  • Bought one for my son from the last HN deal, great bang for buck and my son loves it.

  • Nice. Shame about the design, but the price is hopefully a sign of good things to come from other OEMs.

  • Have a look at domayne, seems like they track this and HN prices.

  • To make things clear Ram Density matters and 1Rx8 is faster than 1Rx16. The latter has more chips on the stick making it less dense and slower.

    • +1

1Rx8 has more chips(8chips-4front4back) , less density and faster.
1Rx16 has less chips(4chips) , more density (same capacity) but slower. - 1Rx16 manufacturer save on chips with the same capacity but slower hence cheaper.

Watch the video at this time, it helped me understand better, the video was from @Grish upstairs
      https://youtu.be/R7CO9v9rpOk?t=547

      • What I meant to say was the latter has half the number of chips but these chips are fatter and more dense as a result.

  • anyone have a screen shot for 28 degrees price protection?
