Deal? Kmart; 15m garden hose with attachments to screw onto tap and adjustable nozzle (fine stream -> wide spray -> off) $6

I'm not sure if this is worth putting in the deals, so I've put it in the forums instead.

I was looking around for a garden hose and also some attachments, when a friend (who knew I was looking for that) turned up with a nice looking hose set. It's just in shrink wrap and the attachments are already on the hose, so you just screw it onto the tap and away you go.

At just $6, I'm kind of amazed. I … haven't looked into hoses too much but I've seen the deals on here and kind of expected I'd spend at least $20 for something similar at Bunnings.

Anyways, it's a 15m x 12mm hose. I think it's a standard. It's definitely not anti-kink.

I checked Kmart to see what else there was, and you can get:
- 30m hose set for $12
- 15m anti kink for $12 or $14
- professional set I think was $18 (I didn't write the prices down) and the pro set had a trigger gun instead of a nozzle

Also, I got a basic hose reel (can handle 45m) for $10. Does anyone know if that was an okay buy?

  • Sounds about right. Big W has 15m hose + 3 fittings for $6 (everyday price).

    • Ahh, thanks for that. I didn't know it was the everyday price. :)

  • wow, i didn't realise hoses were that cheap (haven't bought any in ages). just need free shipping and it'd be a bargain

    • :P I was in the same situation. Except I can visit Kmart and BigW when I go to the shops once a week.

  • Nothing like cheap 'hose'

  • its pretty silly considering we have water restrictions

  • why is it that the cheapest basic no-name spray nozzle in bigw is $6 yet you can get a hose + fittings for the same price?

I have an el-cheapo hose from Coles, $7 regular price. Comes with hose attachments and variable spray nozzle. Never had an expensive hose, but I think the main difference is the quality of the fittings. The hose sometimes falls off the tap, or the nozzle falls off the hose, especially at high pressure. It's OK for occasional use, but if you're an avid gardener, or do a lot of hosing, it's probably going to annoy you.

I bought my hose for $100 at Bunnings. It's is one of those things that once you buy quality, you don't really think about the price you paid. I just found that with cheap hoses I was avoiding doing things that needed being done. They were too much hassle.
