Wonder which disadvantaged social group scomo/josh going to fk over to find this.

    • +2

      Pensioners they always do LOL

Hmm I prefer my news privatised and my entertainment "reality", where everyone grew up by the beach, a farm, or "other" (bogan/migrant)

    • By 'privatised' I hope you mean 'opinionated' because that's all those services are now.

Must be an election coming up.

  • +12

Tell me it's an election year without telling me it's an election year.

They're behind in the polls and the budget is going to be bad regardless so they're probably just going to try buy an election. Look for more tax cuts for parents and the "middle class", ScoMo personally appearing on episodes of Neighbours and promising to fund it for a bajillion years, a new sports oval and medical hub in every swing seat and claims that thanks to their sound economic management the budget is nowhere near as bad as it would have been if Labor were in power (plus, Labor is going to tax old people out of their hard earned retirements! Scary Labor, woooo!)

It'll be interesting to see how they go on climate change. They somehow need to spend money on it while also spending money to support coal.

"It'll be interesting to see how they go on climate change. They somehow need to spend money on it while also spending money to support coal."

Research funds for carbon capture, green coal, clean coal, etc, paid directly to mining R&D companies (better luck next time, CSIRO/Universities)

    • Wonder who they'll use to distract now that all the manufactured outrage about djokovic has come and gone

Tourists are coming back February 21st seems to be their first attempt. Remember tourists? Borders opening, lots of dollars, all thanks to the wondrous Morrison government.

        • +1

Tourists are permitted to arrive from February 21st.

Don't some countries still have us, quite rightly, on their list of places to avoid?

  • +9

Remember this is by the government that cut the funding in the first place.

  • +3

If you’re worried you can’t beat Labor, become Labor.

    • +6

But only until the election is over, then go back to being corrupt, misogynists, authoritarians and ra(p/c)ists.

  • +3

I don't know what he's trying to achieve with this.

Borderline Liberal voters who detest public spend will be turned off the liberals and defect to the independents
Borderline labor voters will see this as an olive branch/peace offering/sympathy grant and nothing more, it's almost worse than if he'd done nothing at all.

One has to wonder what they're thinking.

So many ABC Journos on the bigger shows are completely partisan to the LNP, anyway. That effing hack, Speers, on insiders for one. Leigh Sales is uncouth in her disdain for ALP Premiers; always completely ignoring NSW's performances during COVID. RadioNational might stand a chance cos I think they've changed hosts very recently.

But the ABC is majority of the time a mouth-piece for the LNP.

Did you see Albo's address to the NPC? The whole speech was pretty stellar, on point, answering questions, putting forth Labor policy. Entire audience were listening and responding. ABC presenters at the end: Well that was wonky.

SloMo babbles for an hour revealing barely anything about the LNPs vision for Australia in the near future, then gets a freakin' MONUMENTAL bombshell dropped on him RE: The text msgs from his most senior ministers calling him fraud and a psycho? ABC: ** crickets ** and fumbles over that - as has the media, glossed over completely the gravity of the situation. If you haven't watched this question being put to SloMo, I highly recommend it 1min long. This question at the NPC was completely out of no-where and the look on that punts face is beautiful.

Hehe I knew someone would get upset about Leigh Sales.

        • Bruh have you seen her blocking streak on Twitter? You look at her the wrong way BBBLLOOOCCCKKKKKKEED

          • @ThithLord: I don't have Twitter, but sometimes I look at hers to see people seething over something she said. Quite amusing.

          • +1

@ThithLord: Lmao I’ve seen that. It’s really bizarre. Supposedly people who don’t even reply to her (like those who reply to people who have replied to her) get blocked too.

That’s the worst part of Twitter, some people (usually with thousands of followers) will voice their opinion but when someone rebuts them they just block and ignore them as if it’s not even up for discussion. So all they end up seeing are yes men.

    • That would be why the funding was restored, from the article "Australia Institute poll finds 52% want the $84m withdrawn in the last three years restored as the broadcaster reveals extent of cuts since 2014"

The Libs will be looking through every poll done the past 12 months and anything that says more than 50% of the populace wants something, they'll probably be doing it.

      • +4

They'll probably say they will be doing it.

The LNP is the party of announcements, not delivery.

  • +1

Does anyone know if this is confirmed / budgeted, or just an announcement that would only be (maybe) delivered if the LNP is re-elected?
I know the LNP had a bucket load of money unallocated; not sure if this is part of that or not.

  • +3

Don't fall for their bait and switch.

    • +2

Must be the same as that $2B for the bushfires that they haven't seen yet
