Ordered a Kmart Stick Vacuum - Specs Look Good, Why Is This Not More Popular ?

Hey OZB,

I was looking for a new stick vac as the battery on my last one (Trouver Power) died.

From a use case perspective we have a Miele C3 which we use for our weekly house cleans. This one is more to clean up the kitchen floor after cooking or to do a small spot clean during the week.

Have ordered one from Kmart as their returns policy is great:

https://www.kmart.com.au/product/cordless-stick-vacuum-clean…

The specs look good on paper and the price is pretty reasonable ($150). It has a max suction of 17 kilo pascal which, as reported online, seems on par with a dyson V8.

So my question is - is this kmart one a lemon or is it actually good. If it's good then why are more peeps not buying these?

Anyone have any first hand experience with these?

Thanks in advance :)

They are undoubtedly great value. I got put off by Xaomi from when I bought a smart bulb and the app needed all sorts of random permissions to log in and run a bulb. Tried disabling the permissions but then the app just didn't let me log in with my account so stayed off them. Could consider stick vacuum as there'll be no app interaction I hope.

Also, with my trouver power experience, for the moment I'm more comfortable going with the Kmart one. Just rock up to the store if there's any issues :)

Depending on how much you value Choice's reports, it didn't fare well. Kmart's $69 one was reportedly better. To be fair, your link didn't specify Anko though, so it could be a different model at the same $149 price

Kmart's two newest stick vac products fared no better, taking out the bottom two spots in our stick vacuum review with scores of 63% and 64%.
Despite costing around twice as much as the 2-in-1 V8260-12A model, the Kmart Anko Cordless Stick Cleaner ($119) and the Kmart Anko Cordless Stick Vacuum ($149) *performed even worse than their cheaper cousin. *

Thanks for the link mate. Had a look and the pictures look identical. Surprisingly the vac has really great reviews on the Kmart website (score of 4.5 from 164 reviews) so a bit torn. Could well be a case of you get what you pay for :(

Will let you know how I go.

Kmart seems to have their own legion of fanbois (much like other brands), so wouldn't be surprised their reviews on their own platform are good ;)

Because it doesn't come with Dyson stickers on it and cost 10x what it should.

    • Honestly I'd love to buy a Dyson cause have heard amazing things about their after-sales service and long availability of replacement parts however can't justify dropping that much money on a vac right now.

      • How many Kmart stick vacuums can you buy instead of one Dyson?

        • 8 - 9 if you get a top end Dyson

kilopascal, one word, unit of measurement like centimeter (not centi meter).

Longevity and durability issues. Why don’t you buy one and update us next year? 😉

I have used both Xiaomi and Dyson, both have battery life issues after 3-4 months.
Used to be able to do the whole house in 1 charge, now needing charge halfway.

My Kmart stick vac now can only do 5 mins max.

    • It's on it's way now so will let you know first impressions.

As i'd mentioned, I use my Miele for house cleans and this is more of a clean the kitchen and spot clean. If it gets too bad, i'll take it back within the year.

@brokenglish - One year review if you're interested - Still going strong, haven't needed to replace anything.

Bought a Kmart stick vacc for $69-79 about a year ago. Was ok on the wooden floors but on carpet it did absolutely nothing. Waited about a year before a dyson deal came up and purchased a V8 animal. The carpet head on the dyson was so much better. No complaints with the dyson although I hear the fluffy head cleaner for wooden floors is highly recommended (and I have no idea how to purchase it separately)

    • my girlfriend has the v62 stick, the latch broke and she's had to replace the battery - but it does still suck so i guess that's a good thing

      • The vacuum that is?

Good to hear, but does the vacuum cleaner still work?

I got a KMART vacuum to replace a broken Dyson V6. It was useless. Whether it was hard floors or carpet. It was pretty much useless compared to the V6.
Cant even use it for cars.

I now have a Miele C3 Cat and Dog which is great for carpet. (However is a bit average for hard floors with the standard power head).

    • Thanks for the info man. . might just return it in the box if that' s the case. Just checking that you got the $149 one?

I reckon ours was the $99 one. I would avoid them all regardless after our experience

Unfortunately you pay for what you get and i'd happily get a Xiaomi/Dyson any day over a (relatively complex) Kmart Vacuum.

Yes you can reverse engineer some of the dyson parts but at the end of the day a dyson is still a dyson, even with the battery issues

    • Sounds like I might need to shell out for a Dyson after all. I hear that Xiaomi after sales is shite

  • After deciding against the Aldi, I was looking at the Bissell Featherweight Stick Vacuum 2024F which goes for about $67-79.

Seems like it has decent reviews (I don't have access to the Choice online so not sure how it compares to the Anko ones).

  • Hi everyone - Wanted to give you an update since I decided to hang on the vacuum after all and am very happy with it.

The suction power is a little lower than the "Trouver Power" (only other stick vac I've used) on high but the battery life is much better (20 - 30 minutes on high). Additionally it comes with a charging base which means it's always charged and ready to use.

Performance wise, it does a great job at doing a daily clean that we use it for (we bring out the normal vac on the weekend). Spares are available readily, are shipped from Melbourne, and if there's an issue I can walk in to a Kmart store and get it sorted without a problem.

    • Just reading this now, looking at getting one. How's it going after 6 months? Still recommend it?

      • 100% no drop in suction or battery life, easy to clean and comes it its own stand.
