New Couch, Is Koala as Good as They Say?

It’s time to buy new couches for my apartment. When googling I notice ads for Koala and stating their couches are the number 1 rated couch in Australia. Has anyone on ozbargin bought from Koala and are they as good as they say? Or am I better of looking in furniture stores

Please help me OzB, your my only hope!

    No! made in china now

  • Do they offer the 100day trial? What is the delivery time and how log is the guarantee? Also what does the guarantee cover? Does the guarantee cover sagging or crushed padding? Have you sat in it to see if it is what you want?

if you cannot answer these simple questions then go to a real brick an mortar store and find a sofa then suite you and ask them the same questions.

BTW you want a 10 year guarantee/warrantee for the longest warrantee and they do exist, but you pay for it, but the product lasts a long time compared to the ones that have a 2 or 5 year warrantee.

We bought their sofa bed and it was terrible as a couch. It's all form, so there's no support in it.

Fwiw, they also did not publish my 3 star review on their site, so don't rely on them.

    • I had a feeling this was the case, I saw so many 5 star reviews but on their site I hardly saw bad reviews

For reviews check out independent sites, not reviews on the company web site.

    No good. Nick scali better.

  • I have a koala couch - it’s actually quite comfy but I’d still argue it’s way overpriced at retail, especially given it’s aimed at being an Australian company but they are now all made in China which is disappointing. If they were made in Australia I’d say the price was justified. Purchased with Boxing Day sales in 2020. I think around 25% off, I would not pay full price.

Also just picked up the IKEA Slatorp and a similar price to the Koala after discount. I prefer the style and look of the IKEA couch.

To be honest, I don’t mind brands like Sleeping Duck, Ecosa, Koala etc for their mattress offerings given how monopolised our mattress companies have been for so long, but their furniture pricing is (profanity) outrageous. They are way overpriced for what it is and they are riding on their good mattress reviews to sell them at high prices. Koala selling average bedside tables made out of plywood for $300 a pop. Crazy.

  • I find 3 star reviews can be more revealing than the 1 or 5 stars. If someone's gonna give a 3 they're prepared to say both what's good and bad about a product.
