[PS4] Persona 5 Royal - $39.98 (was $99.95) @ PlayStation Store

240

Cheapest it's been on the online store. If you're prepared to import physical copies from UK you could typically get those for about $45 - 50 so this is even cheaper.

Great for if you're looking to come back to play Persona 5 again, or if you're a newbie Persona 5 Royal is generally agreed to be the superior version so you should start with this.

  • Mad Max was very cheap, not that this has any relevance. FYI

  • Thx OP, so I never touched the series before. I can just jump right into no.5?

I've only played 5 and had no problems at all. Completely separate story. Get it!

Yep. Just a heads up the games usually have a slow start, takes a few hours to get going, but from there it's a fantastic.

They're all self contained stories, so you're good to go. Most people never touch the first two anyway.

It was this price in December when I picked it up.

I had never played a JRPG before so I was unsure what to expect except a long story and even longer game and MAN! Did I underestimate the story. I almost gave up on it after an hour cause I found it so boring. I seriously regretted buying the digital copy and not the physical one that was cheaper from Amazon UK. Then I almost gave up again at the three hour mark because it was taking too long to get to the game but I powered on through as the story was becoming more interesting and the little bits of action I got to play was fun and because I had spent $40 and everyone kept saying keep playing it. And here I am, all these weeks later still playing it for about an hour a day and loving it. It obviously took me ages to get into but I’m hooked and already thinking of the next JRPG to get after I finish with this one, which will probably be Shin Megami Tensei V.

    • Opposite for me, poured 100+ hours into p4g on ps vita but with p5 I just lost interest around kaneshiros bank. Just couldn’t get into it.

The bank was a grind and uninspired. The next palace is better, though I’m not past it yet.

Cheapest it's been on the online store.

Might have been a PS+ exclusive deal I think, but I got the Deluxe Edition back in October for $35 according to the email receipt

    • Wow that's a big saving from $116.95

For anyone wondering, the Royal version of the game has ~4K/30fps graphics (instead of the 1080p/30fps on the original Personal 5) and this makes a BIG difference, the art looks amazingly good. Definitely worth getting if you have a PS4 Pro or PS5.

60fps would be even better, but TBH the game is already very smooth at 30fps so it's not a big loss.

  • What's the difference between this and Persona 5 Strikers that was the PS+ freebie?

Persona 5 Royal is basically an enhanced version of the original release - Persona 5 - it's a JRPG. You go into dungeons, fight monsters in turn based battles, advance the story etc.

Persona 5 Strikers is a spinoff made by the company who does Dynasty Warriors, which is a mindless hack and slash where you effortless smash your way through giant armies of disposable enemies. It's kind of relaxing and simple silly fun. Recently they've started getting into the business of making spinoff games for Zelda, Persona, etc. So Persona 5 Strikers is basically a semi mindless hack and slash game set in the Persona 5 setting. It's set after all the events of Persona 5 and the plot is forgettable but I think it's good fun for fans of Persona 5.
