Hotels now work out to be 0.86c per point, and this is a permanent change. pretty good value compared to the standard gift cards of 0.5c
This beats even non-classic flights which varies but a quick cals shows it to be around 0.79c per point
paying for flights or hotels with points is a bad redemption.
they are intentionally blurring the differentiation between a classic rewards flight & paying with points
I just checked the price for my return flight home from Adelaide. It's been around $350. Now it's $490. Hmmmm not happy!! So they do a 20% off points and put the price up. What a load of BS!!! Now it is 60,000. Before it was 24,000
24,000 points is the Classic Flight Reward rate (12K points one-way). That's still the same, it just means those reward seats have been booked out on your flights.
60,000 points is the Points + Pay rate, tied to the cash fare price. This is now 20% lower than before, but still bad value.
What’s the best way to use points then? Upgrade from economy?

Book the flights (classic rewards) using points. Paying cash for surcharges etc.
Or better yet (albeit not ideal in the current climate), but for value - a Oneworld classic flight reward:

Had a Qantas Hotel booking just cancelled without penalty received points back rebooked same dates/room/hotel with 30% off.
Still a complete utter waste of points.
