    These are almost 50% carbs

    • What is wrong with carbs? Better to come from dates than refined sugar…

Simple carbs are not good for you, they cause spikes in blood sugar and make you feel hungry soon after, resulting in overeating.

        • +1

And they cause “3pm-itis” that then needs to be cured…

Maybe we should stop indiscriminately avoiding carbs as an entire macro group? For those who aren't aware of the differences within carbs it's confusing. And if we're going to avoid carbs entirely then your other suggestion of an apple is more like 97% carbs by macros…

an apple is more like 97% carbs

        Closer to 10% carbs…

By macros though? Most of an apple is water, so if we wanted those extra benefits we could just drink a few cups of water.
I wouldn't say eating a whole pack of something like this product in one go would be great to have all the time, but similar things (both homemade and store-bought) have been useful to me for quick energy before exercise because of the higher carbohydrate content. For other people, maybe only having carbs in the form of fruits, vegetables etc and instead having higher fat works better, but diets aren't a one-size-fits-all thing.

Speaking more generally though, I just don't think oversimplifying "carbs are bad" is helpful to the wider population, just as in the past "fats will make you fat" was misleading.

Of course I agree that certain carbohydrates eg. refined sugar are terrible for everyone and I think in general the whole marketing of "healthy" is an absolute mess, but maybe we can be more nuanced about those complexities so people can make more informed decisions instead of being led down the path of "carbs = bad" which can be confusing and unhelpful for those who know less about nutrition

            By macros though?

Yes, I wrote an Excel Macro to calculate it.

Apple tastes better and helps keep your teeth clean too…

            I think it is helpful.

            Most people prefer simple rules.

Keeping carbs to a minimum, in general is a good thing, unless you are running a marathon.

            • @jv: We can agree to disagree. :)

  • perfect cure to 3pm-itis.

    So is an apple

  • Showing $2 for me

    • The $3 and $2 are different products, though both on special.

      • Ok well the linked deal came up $2

        • +2

Fyi the $5 packets were $2.50 at woolworths until yesterday.

  • I rate their caramel ones over these

  • Thanks OP for telling us what it is made of, I'll pass as I really hate dates, both their texture and sweetness.

  • Love Smooshed balls. Stocked up when they were half price. These look similar. Will grab some, cheers OP.
