nbn - Sydney North Shore - SuperLoop Experiences?

I am currently with Telstra Cable (HFC), looking to hop on the NBN bandwagon. Family of four, typical usage, work from home, Netflix, etc. Need something stable for Teams/Zoom work from home video calls.

I was looking at Superloop, Optus and ABB - was leaning towards Superloop, but then saw some of the negative comments/reviews against the current Superloop deals, and I am hesitating now….

I did have a look at the Superloop CVC graphs for Chatswood NSW POI (which is my NBN connection point), and I did see some spikes near 100%, which was quite concerning. (I could be reading the graphs wrong….:)

Hence, seeking advice for those with experience of Superloop (and particularly those that are connected to the Chatswood NSW POI)

Thanks!

Connected in Canberra and its been faultless since day one. Hopefully those closer to home can give a more accurate overview on their experience locally.

Similar as you, I switched from Telstra to them and couldn't be happier. I'm a bit further north though connecting to the Asquith exchange from Hornsby and I see no reason to look elsewhere at the moment. It's pretty dependable, it has only been offline unexpectantly once during my 6 months and they did send out notification about 5-10 minutes after it went down to let me know they were working to resolve and it was back online 30 minutes later.

Decided to move across after Telstra upped their prices while everyone else was reducing, now getting double the down speed for less than I was paying before. Didn't require a new modem as the Telstra Smart Gen 2 modem just connected up all good with no config needed.

  • i went to ABB 1000/50 to superloop 1000/50, ive lost about 300/15 going to superloop.
usual speed of abb was 850-920/40-45
    speed of superloop is 600-710/30-32
will churn back after one month

    • For most RSP's the 50/100 are withing a few MB. At 250 you can start to see some differences and at 1000 there are some HUGE differences in the 100 to 400 range and some do not guarantee anywhere near 1000 at night.

At 1000 check out reviews that are less than 6 months old as things change and old reviews may not be valid now.

      • yeah i never expected 1000 anyway, but the difference is huge when downloading large iso/img files.

Another quirk is that allot of modem/routers out there in people's places have issues with sustained speeds above (If I remember correctly) about 300 or 400 MB. So some people use an existing modem and wonder why they can't get decent speeds and then buy a better (aka $300+) modem and their speed goes up a few 100MB. Something to remember if you are asked to help out other people who get a 1000 plan and their speed sucks is to try a different modem/router.

  • I'm on Superloop 250/25 (free upgrade for 6 months - will be downgraded to 100/20 in about a month) on HFC, 2CHA - same as your POI

I don't game, but I've been pretty happy with consistent speeds. We had no issues with 2 kids at home doing all day zoom lessons during lockdown last year

I run a docker container that checks my speeds 3 times a day (as I was planning on churning if it ended up being crappy)

Here are my speeds over the last month https://ibb.co/QHZgZDP

  • thank you all so much for the insights. I am a bit more reassured now and will sign up!

    • You should read this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/639662 before you make any decisions. Our experience with Superloop was terrible. Any savings we made were negated by lengthy delays trying to get through to customer service, as well as through drop outs. Ended up taking them to the TIO and moving to ABB. ABB have been much, much better!

  • I'm in NSW further North and have no information about the service because Superloop hasn't been able to provide the service. Their customer service is non-existent… I'm right now waiting for 1h2min to have my call answered (because the chat person said I had to go home and call to do the troubleshooting).

I had Superloop before, but am trying to solve this problem (new connection at renting place, previous tenant had NBN FTTN) for days and they have no support, or have far more problems than their support is able to manage.

At this stage, I am more keen to have my money (first month) back and I will look for something else… Such a waste of time, it's infuriating…

  • I’m got FTTB at my apartment. Really liked Superloop. Got the speeds on the box even in the evening. 52/18 on a 50/20. Moved over to Exetel which was instant. Only moved because I was coming to the end of the 6 month discount.
I asked a couple weeks ago for the last 2 months if they would move me up to the 100/20 plan but said I’d lose the discount and seemed in the too hard basket for them. Would have considered staying with them had they allowed that…

  • Following - Interested to hear your experience with Superloop as I'm also in Chatswood.
Currently with Optus (100/40), but seriously considering swapping as I get internet drops every fortnight or so.
