Exercise Bike - Fortis EXR-400A. Any Thoughts?

Fortis Electric Magnetic Exercise Bike EXR-400A

Looking for exercise bike, for fitness and to do low impact exercise (compared to running)

Had a look into the above model and it seem it meets the tick, and price seems to be reasonable.

However, I am not sure how good it is.
Pros: decent price (compared to $2000 model), good screen, suits beginner level
Cons:
It has only 16 level of resistance. (The next level up is sold out and has lower rating review)
Not sure what 16 level resistance gives you.
A review said seat is not easily adjustable

Anyone have experience with exercise bike that they can share?
Thanks.

swimming is cheaper and lower impact then biking and running.

i would rather get a bike trainer and zwift. then when the weather is nice i can ride my bike outside.

I thought that a bike trainer and zwift are a bit more than $260?

Yes, unfortunately quite a lot more. You'd be looking at $2000+ for a decent bike (or secondhand on Gumtree for a little less, but you might be dealing with stolen bikes…) and ~$1000 for a decent smart trainer, plus the $21.99 Zwift monthly subscription.

This is of course assuming you already have internet access, a computer/tablet/Apple TV, some really powerful fans (you can thank me later for this tip), etc. It can all add up, so you better be serious about it before you commit.

Having said that, I am committed to it and do love it. I've just been riding the Tour de Zwift and participating in the INEOS Grenadiers training camp. So much fun and such great workouts!

I actually got a second bike from bicycles online for my trainer and to use exclusively on Zwift. Approx $1200 for the bike - so slightly less than the 2k above but still more than $260.

That said, Zwift is brilliant. It is expensive… Bike + Trainer (easily $1000+) + device + fans + towels etc etc.. but very much worth it. I too enjoy it.

The bike you posted looks like it'll be a great clothes rack in 8 weeks time.

@o53djz7qTPY4der: agreed, it's worth every penny. you can go cheap, but i always say, "buy once, cry once."

so true, that is exactly what my stationary bike and treadmill are now, lol.

          • @o53djz7qTPY4der: Thanks for the response guys.

I must also mention, I plan to use it for exercising indoor, especially when outdoor exercise unlikely to happen (weather, etc)
            And to burn the calories.

Seems bike plus trainer are good option (apart from the space that it requires ) but…
Why exercise bike does not work? (Thus become clothes rack lol)

            Eg, is that because
-It breaks down ? (What about warranty?)
-It is too easy ? (The resistance level does not help)
-Uncomfortable to sit? (Quality of the seat)
            -boring or no motivation?
            -or something else?

@11CENTS: This is just my personal experience, but I had a spin bike years ago. It wasn't expensive, about $300 and in a similar brand category as this Kogan one. I absolutely hated it. Couldn't adjust the seats very well, couldn't adjust the handlebar height, the resistance felt very awkward, and the pedals were awkward too. Overall, the positioning just wasn't right that I was constantly uncomfortable and thus couldn't really stay on for long enough to do any useful exercise. I gave up and sold it after a while. I didn't try any other exercise bikes so I don't know if the expensive ones will give me a better experience or not, but two years ago my son started cycling and we bought a smart trainer for him. I loved the experience so much that we now have a second trainer for myself and a dedicated drop bar bike for the trainer too. Yes, it is a lot more expensive, but the bike fits me so well since it is my old road bike that I used regularly before it got downgraded to be a trainer bike, and I can stay on and ride for hours with no problems.

@11CENTS: For me, it’s boring as bat…. spinning away on a stationary bike or running on a treadmill.

Any exercise equipment that has made its way into our house always ends up as a clothes horse.

      indeed

    • Got it. Cheers. ( I agree riding out is much more enjoyable)

If exercise bike get boring very quickly, would it be possible to do parallel tasks, eg. Watching TV, movie, video chat, etc? Would that work or is that a false ads that the exercise bike company wants to consumer to believe?

I always think that to work out at a nice high intensity, it actually requires quite a bit of concentration. I could never watch a movie etc, certainly not a video chat. As you get fitter, you will be 100% committed to the actual session, with every fibre of your body hurting and you will be covered in dripping sweat, so all you will need is Zwift and/or music.

That is very person dependant. For some ‘getting fit’ means moving more, more times per week. It’s less about maximum intensity and more about being active, doesn’t require a lot of effort, just some motivation. For others, like you say it is about gaining maximum fitness which requires lots of effort and maximising efficiency of whatever fitness task you do.

For the first category, enjoyment of the activity is high on the agenda and skin bikes seem like a good idea but get boring fast. Watching a movie while you spin isn’t a terrible thing
