This is a pretty standard price for the DDR4. Never seen it listed over 500 cause the DDR5 version is basically 500 to 520 all the time.
But will agree it's a great board I have the ddr5 version in my pc build
Hmmm this board has been consistenly priced above 500 until this week, if you consider the Asus & MSI variant to this they are all 550+
Why do motherboards still only have 1 type-c port?
Because for Z690 like this one, it is a USB 3.2 gen 2x2 port. Such port required PCIe gen 3 x4.
USB-C ports continue to be quite messy. Is it USB 2, 3/3.1/3.2, 3.1/3.2 gen 2, 3.2 gen2x2, Thunderbolt 3, or USB 4, Thunderbolt 4?
Both ddr4 and ddr5 been $469 on shopping express for quote a while now.
This is not a terrible price delivered though
Why is the motherboard of 12th gen so expensive? I am tempting to upgrade my PC but the surging price of motherboard, DDR5 RAM and graphics card really turns me off.
Honestly, there's not much benefit from 12th gen if you want a new rig right now.
- Funky new socket means you need a cooler with an adapter, so you need to suss that out
- DDR4 is competitive with DDR5 with massive price difference
- Apparently 12th gen run HOT
- Stupid P cores and E cores, no real-world benefit
Best bang for buck would be 11th Gen or 5000 series Ryzen. Save money now, that performance will still be fine for years.
I would reckon the 10th gen Intel and Ryzen Zen3 and their motherboards are more wallet friendly. 11th gen is also running hot with AVX512 on.
for gaming a 12400/B660 (DDR4) is best bang for buck atm
@Solrak: The cheapest B660 I can find is $199. This is even more expensive than budget Z590 and X570.
@BennyHe2018: Most cheap Z590 & X570 boards pretty basic in terms of features/performance. Usually you are better off buying a mid-range B660 or B550 board over these.
PE cores will hopefully add a lot of value in the laptop space where we care more about power. In the server space…maybe as power/heat matters. PC space however they seem a bit redundant.
I guess this all depends on your vantage point of why is ‘bang for buck’. The 12th gen is actually very good, and the benefits of P and E cores are definitely there.
There’s a reason the 12900k can outperform the 5950x in a bunch of tests despite having less threads available to use. Hint, hardware is one thing but software also plays a huge part and 12th gen with Windows 11 is able to do some quite clever things in the background.
And on the budget ‘bang for buck’ end of things the 12100f is a really solid cpu at a great price point. Don’t seem any hotter than other CPUs from what I’ve seen. Either way cooling solutions are so cheap nowadays with so many options who bothers with stock coolers anymore if you’re building your own pc already anyway.
245W (12900k) vs 105W (5900) is a LOT of extra heat. It'll be throttling itself or putting out a volcano in your case.
Keep that in mind.
@DigSpider: The 12900k idles at lower as per Jays2cents videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m061p-B-IYo
Under load agreed but the 12900k under load gets more work done with those tests equating to more work done(think it was 14 renders competed) and then idles at lower wattage. Someone has to compare the two properly, Havent seen right tests comparing how much wattage they chew overall.
@Mrsash: Comments from that YT video (which I agree):
"compares idle of full system with water cooling, fans, LED's with only motherboard on the box"
But yeah, good to have competition, I'm just always aware of little volcanos as I used to own an original AMD Athlon from back in the day (who here is even old enough to remember that?).
@DigSpider: I agree with the temps. I am not a fan of high temps. Have a 6600k running at 30deg most times and 58deg at load.
Use my PC pretty much for general stuff these days and a lot of video conversion. Tossing between waiting for the next gen to see lower temps but would have to go 12600k or somethings similar if I go for it right now for the time saved overall due to the 12th gen being faster.
I honestly don't get the hype over Alder Lake.. the pricey motherboards, added cooling needs and DDR5 RAM makes for terrible value. Yes, I know you can stick with DDR4 but you have to toss the mobo if you ever want to upgrade in the future (and yes, I'm also aware of adapters coming out to address this but that just exacerbates the issue).
For the fastest performance available today, you're going to pay a pretty penny for the privilege. It explains why AMD haven't been rushed to drop their prices - the value equation is still in their favour.
any Z690 boards with more than 6sata connectors.. I have the Elite AX and need more sata connections.
The ITX version of this has heaps of issues (search on Reddit), not sure this one is the same
Ultra? Bios related?
I've been looking for a new motherboard too, wouldn't Asus TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 ATX LGA1700 @ $383 + Shipping (approx $21) be of better value?

I also ran the compare and the difference are marginal:
https://pangoly.com/en/compare/motherboard/gigabyte-z690-aor…
You cannot go wrong with either of them. Both are decent motherboard for the K series CPUs. Maybe ASUS is better because of the lower price?
i just brought one.
