Aftermarket Car Seats

Foam and shape of my old car seats is collapsing. It's a 2009 Nissan Micra.

Is there any good deals on something aftermarket? Will it be easy enough to DIY install?

Not looking for race seats or 4x4 seats. Want something comfortable, adjustable and durable, and of course suited to the car. Plan to keep car for a while.

Or could I install used seats from a different model car?

Alternatively, would it be cheaper to have the seats re-built? For a budget car I don't think they were great in the first place, so not sure about fixing or replacing with OEM seats or seats from a wreck. I looked at one wrecked car and the front seat had the same problem.

Already tried some Googling but mostly found race seats and not sure what might be suitable or a good price.

Are there airbags in existing seats?

You looked at one single wrecked car? lol.
Perhaps look at a few more. The OEM seats will be the ones that are guaranteed to fit and they'll just slot right in with the existing bolts and any cables.

    • If my car and others of same model have the same issue, even a new one or a good used one will soon collapse?

      • It's a 2009 model so it's taken over 10 years to get to this point. Not sure if your car will last that long again. haha

If you get a pair of Recaro seats (or Bride Brix), probably worth more than the car

  • damn how'd you destroy seats in a 2009 model car? i drove a 96 ek civic for the best part of 15 years and the seats were still fine

    • Design flaw? I bought the car like this. Seems to be common for the model.

Take your car to a couple of automotive upholsterers. They'll be able to give you advice on whether the seats can be refurbished, or whether there are better options. Did this with the MIL's Forester (in SA), good outcome.

aaah, so MILF is mother in law's forester. not sure why such a popular term though.

      • Gold. This needs more upvotes.

Not to be confused with Mother In Laws Forest.

        • Or Mother In Laws Front garden

      • Puzzled me as well. Might have to look at some of those YouTube clips to see what others are on about with their mother in laws' Foresters. Unusually popular thread.

    • Will that be cheaper than something aftermarket? Hard to compare without some aftermarket prices.

      • It will depend on how much work is required to refurbish the seat.

      Good outcome was….?

Seat had the foam bolster adjusted, made the seat more supportive and was less expensive than aftermarket replacements. Also, reduced an audible whine from the cabin.

Depends how handy you are. Go to wrecker. Buy some seats from a similar sized model and stick them in. May need to adapt/swap rails etc.

Keep it simple, legal and most importantly Safe, repair your existing seat with a higher density foam. Seat base & Design flaw sorted.

Changing seats….can be simple also…but, runners, seat belts, design aspects to suit vehicle model, is a mine field if not done to AU Standards… so Safety becomes a big if.
