  • I always wonder about this kind of smart lock, how does it fare with the weather?
Like, what if it's getting direct sunlight for most of the day, how does it mechanically and electronically fare?

Also, anyone knows how much does it cost to have this kind of smart lock installed?

    • +1

To be honest I really have no idea for the extrame weather condition in Australia.
All entrance door shall be at least partially covered by the eaves.
Both sides have rubber underlay to seal between terminal and door surface.

    • Much the same as any other digilocks but consider going with Gainsborough Freestyle or Schlage Omnia as allegion has pretty good warranty on them.

    • We have a Samsung Smart lock we’ve had for, probably, five years. It gets afternoon Sun and it is coping pretty good. It is in an alcove so it doesn’t get direct rain. It can get a bit touchy, with sensitivity, so sometimes it doesn’t detect the touch or you get bounce. However, overall, we are pretty happy with it. The bonus with ours is MYKI cards work with it. You just program them in.

However, if I had my time over I would, also, get one with a physical key override in case the lock fails completely.

My man installed the lock for us. I’m not sure about these locks but the one we had was very similar to a standard lock to install.

    • If you click the Service (optional) button on the website it shows $300 to install them, so wouldn't be paying more than that in other cities.

Been using the DP609 for almost 2 yrs. its fantastic in terms of durability. We do get quite a bit of morning sun, but been working very well.

Look for an average handymen, and just ask him to install the lock mechanically on your door. Mine costed me 75$, and just add the batteries and follow the manual to connect the wifi.

      • thx for the review, pulled the trigger finally. can u plz share the handyman details? hoping ur located in Melb.

        • Sorry, I am from sydney. Just got someone local from fb marketplace, didnt tell him its a smart lock. The lock comes with a sticker with dimensions, all you need to do is ask the handyman to make a hole of that size (if needed ). My existing door had a standard lock from the builders, so had to create a bigger hole for the lock and mortise. but rest is just like a normal lock. If you are lucky, you may be able to install in your existing lock itself.
Nothing that requires a specilist smart lock installer IMO. this guide on youtube was really helpful - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRJVnspxz4Y&t=3s

          • @vishhh: Thank you. Will give a shot

          • @vishhh: No existing lock holes can fit Samsung smart lock because of mortise size.
And the difference between $75 handyman/carpenter and a professional installer is your time involved in the job, and neat cut or messy if he doesn't have suitable tools, sometimes breaks your door

  • Wow expensive fortunately no one can pinch it like a expensive security camera or smart door bell

OP, what are the main differences between these three models? Thanks.

    • -1

Surely you could google that in the same time it took to ask?

      • +2

Not really. These aren’t mass market consumer tech with lots of resources. I would also like to know.

    • +1

Due to the Samsung App limitations for overseas models.
I would say the functionally they are the same.
Even the DR719 comes with Wifi function, it is quite tricky to get it work in Australia.
In this case just pick the best looking one in your opinion.

      • Just to clarify, are you saying that the DR719 wifi functionality won't work in Australia?

        • DR719 has Wifi function won't work with Australia Samsung App.
Only Chinese version App would be able to setup this model.

          • +2

@jimgreenb: Thank you for the information.
Surely you should state this and any other limitations in your website?

          • @jimgreenb: What about dp609, is it's WiFi works with Australia Samsung App?

            • @mspaint: DP609 does not support WiFi anyway….

              • @jimgreenb: Oh the one selling at like BingLee says it has wifi connectivity.. I thought they are the same…

                • @mspaint: Standard DP609 doesn't unless you could souce the WiFi module.
Refer to the manual on Section 13.

                • @mspaint: @mspaint Samsung locks in Bing Lee, Bunnings, JB Hifi are from DDL, Samsung official distributor in Australia, not grey import

  • +3

    Any comparison chart?

  • Good price on the DP609. These rarely go on sale. Although as pointed out in the last deal, it's an overseas model as the Gold version doesn't appear to be sold by Australian retailers.

  • +2

So OP. Are you sawing they are grey imports? How does Samsung warranty or any warranty apply then?

    • We offer 12months warranty locally.
Haven't received any warranty claims so far.

      • Is everyone you installed this for still locked in?

        JK :)

  • Non AU stock - took many comments to uncover the functions of these import models may not work in Australia.

  • -It says compatible with door thickness 38-80mm, my door is 37mm am wondering whether it will still fit?

    • Can be done with experienced installer

    • Thin door is very sensitive especially with Push Pull types, handle may be loosen during the time and can't open from outside then

  • Can't find the place to enter coupon. Any steps?

    • 2nd step in check out

      • No luck? Should I login? Trying to checkout as guest

        • Please use desktop computer. Mobile site won't accept coupons. Thx

          • @jimgreenb: Still no luck 😔. Disabled block. I'm on mac using Chrome now.

            • @hopper: Sorry for the inconvenience.
Adjusted the price so no coupon is required at checkout. Thx

  • would u suggest any professional installer for the lock in Melbourne

    • You can call Jimmy at Smartlockinstallation
He is top recommended by Samsung DDL in Melbourne

  • I have used my SHP-DP609EN for close to a year now. I am happy with general functions of the device.

There are a few things I think new users should aware. Main issue for me is if your smart lock somehow lost Internet connection, Any histories or changes done on the unit during the outage will not appear in your Samsung app. eg, I lost my Internet connection but I had to add some extra PIN code manually using the device itself. Once my Internet is back, my Samsung App have no knowledge of the new PINs I have added manually during the outage and I am unable to manage the new entries from the app. The annoying thing with the unit is that there's no way to "re-sync" them with Samsung server. To make things worse, I have no way of finding out how many PINs are actually programed in the unit. The only way I know is reset entire unit and setup everything again…

Anyone else out there have same experience or maybe I did something wrong?

  • Would love one of these, but the holes for the deadbolt and key tumble in my fire door are not aligned. I guess this cannot be installed on my door easily

    • You can consider Samsung DH537 DH538 P718 P717 for fire rated door

  • Where are these posted from? Is pickup available?

    • From Brisbane. Sorry no pick up service available
