$1500 for 55" Screen Mini LED - Which One or Wait?

Hello legends,

I've been blessed with the MacBook Pro new Mini-LED screens and my TV just doesn't cut it anymore. Looking for them deeper blacks.

I have a 28 Degrees Price Protection enabled card so a screen anywhere in the $1.5-$2k RRP range is a-okay. As the prices always drop down.

Should I go now or wait for a couple of months for Gen 2 Mini LED?

I've been looking at TCL c825 and the Samsung QA85A. Any other options that I'm missing out on?

The idea is to mount it to a portable stand so I can use it in the computer room and lounge room. I work as a photography and video editor so have a nice screen helps a lot.

Kindly,

  • I thought 28 degrees dropped price protection.

It's grandfathered if you already had it

      • That makes sense. Cheers

The 55" LG C1 squeezes into that price range when on sale.
    Why compromise with miniLED?

    • OLEDs still have the ongoing POTENTIAL problems of burn-in and loss of brightness over time. That's not to say mini-LED is better than OLED, just offering some reasons why someone may choose one over the other.

    • Interesting. Yeah I was seeing that OLED had burn in problems and I am looking to use it a monitor as well. So that Mac task bar could become a burnt in feature.

  • You could get a zoned backlit TV with good HDR. Though I noticed that not many TVs have zoned backlighting for some reason. Zoned backlighting also bleeds the glow slightly, it's noticeable especially on small glowing objects like shots of the moon or a candle flame.

    • Any suggestions on a particular model?

      • I got a Hisense series 7 from a few years ago. The blacks are deep black because the LEDs behind the black area turn off. Newer Hisense TVs tend not to have it though, I don't really understand why it isn't a standard feature. It must cost a lot more money than standard backlighting.

        • All TV brands have Full Stay Local Dimming models including Hisense.
They're in the top tier models as the technology is indeed more expensive
