Pros:
- you get a free machine, as it comes with 108 coffee capsules (coles have 16 pods for $7.70 when on special, based on that the capsules that come with the machine alone are worth about $52)
Cons:
- less pressured steam (compared to Nespresso & some Delonghi machines), i think it affects froth/richness (not 100% sure tho as I have not used a machine that uses plastic capsules)
- leaching of microplastic into your coffee, hot water/steam may have some affect on plastic and it may leach into your coffee.
I used to have a Nespresso coffee machine, got rid of it when i realised it has way too much enhanced coffee taste coming out of it. I think when food is enhanced for taste (over 90% of supermarket stuff), it looses its originality (due to additives, refining & processes). Now I stick to ground coffee & plunger like many upper-middleclass/rich guys in my uni.
Used to have a coffee machine (with supermarket pods), ditched it for an espresso machine and never looked back.
Nothing like using fresh ground coffee. Sure it takes a little more effort than a one touch machine, but it's worth it.
I scored a second hand fully automatic espresso machine (a Delonghi Magnifica) for $100 and never looked back. It's not barista made coffee, but still beats capsules.
