2 Adults, 3 Kids, 7 Nights in Fiji - What Would Be The Expected Cost?

Has anyone got any opinions on how much you'd get away with for a resort stay in Fiji (or similar) for a family with 3 kids?

My quotes are coming back around $7500 for 7 nights, flights included. Not sure if the third kid is basically doubling the cost.

    What resort quoted that price?
    Was the quote all-inclusive?

    • This one was a Denarau Island (I figure they're all basically the same 5 star type situation). I don't think Fiji has any budget options that I'm aware of.

Quote includes accommodation, flights, transfers and some have some additional extras like Full Board (probably not keen on that) or room credit.

What resort? What's included in the costs? When are you going? How old are the kids? Who are you flying with?

    • kids are 10, 7 and 4.

When is variable, doesn't have to be school holiday.

Who flying with is variable, no preference.

Approx $1300 return flights with jetsar according to skyscanner. Hotels can be had for under $200 a night so budget for $3-4k depending on personal preferences.

So OP changed the post from $7,500 excluding flights, to "flights included"
    Makes a big, big difference!!

    • I didn't change or edit anything.

The ~$7500 I've been quoted is for a package deal.

  • flight have been going for about $300 return on here lately.

    • about the 3rd kid. play around with configurations on the sites like agoda & booking.com. try some others as the pricing seems to be different on each.

  • Another one where Google would help.

    • No, not true. Everything is gated by way of a sales person. Quotes are easy to retrieve, but nothing is published up front.

2 Adults, 3 Kids, 7 Nights in Fiji - What Would Be The Expected Cost?

My max would be $1000 for flights and $1000 for accommodation…
Anything more than that, not worth it…

So for 5 people, you expect to pay $100 for a flight to Fiji?
And $142 per night for a family hotel?

      • -5

        yep, around that…

Otherwise, might as well just go to Port Douglas…

        • +1

I'm not sure you understand how much a Port Douglas holiday costs either

          • @Niko123456: That's approx what we paid a couple of years back (actually, flights were Cheaper.)

Car hire was $60 per day too.

      • Australian passenger tax is $60
        Fiji passenger tax is $135
Add airport taxes on top of that

Taxes alone is well over $1k for the family.. never mind the actual fares

    • Anything more than that, not worth it…

So $200/pp for flights and 7 nights accommodation? WOW come on.

At a guess, I would say around $7500…… Which works out about $1500/pp for 7 nights and flights. Not too bad.

Not sure if the third kid is basically doubling the cost.

Then get a quote for 2 adults and 2 kids instead. At a guess, around $5-6k for that.

But generally rooms that sleep 5 are way more costly than rooms that sleep 4, and again they are more costly than a room that sleeps 2.

I assume you got the quote through Fiji Airways holiday package? If so, that's the best deal you'll find as it includes all meals, plus airport transfers too. Takes most incremental spend out. I think for 5 people inclusive, it's a good deal.

I recommend checking the specific hotels for what activities are included for free. For example, at the Shangri-la, there's an inflatable water park, plus free 30 min canoeing slots, free 1-hour snorkelling gear rentals and other fun activities the resort hosts as it's their own special island it's built on. For the Marriott, they charged extra for everything, so lots of additional costs for kids.

Ps.. I was there for a week in Dec 21 so happy to help with other questions, if any.

You win the internet! I didn't know about the Fiji Airways package so checked it out.. found 7 nights, 2 rooms, transfers, full board (!) for $4200 for the lot. Cracking deal so I went and booked, wahhooo!

      Edit: at the Shangri-La

      • can you share a link to what you booked?

        thanks

      • Happy to help mate! And wow even then I didn't expect 4200 total. Have a blast!

    • How was the Shangri-la? I was looking at the Hiltons (diamond member) and they were horrendous after a year of no tourists.

      • I considered Hilton too because I'm also a Diamond… but the truth is, every Hilton I've stayed has been far too business so I'm not sure they could pull off a resort?

Might want to read the 'Fiji Holiday nightmare' thread (or something like that) on AusFrequentFlyer.

  • If you're focused on cost, note that there are all inclusive options (well, there were when I was there last time). Naviti is a good family/budget option, whilst the Warwick is a bit higher end - both places have, or used to have all inclusive deals. It's too hard to accurately estimate without knowing what standard of accommodation you expect.

Why bother….it is just an island…. go to QLD…. stop romanticising placing your entire family in danger and unnecessary expense.

Really…. spend the money on other things

  • Most Fiji resorts have a "kids under 12 stay and play for free" but there's a chance they only do that for each paying adult, therefore the third may be inflating your price?
