  • It has been a couple of years since I last got one, but aren't they always this price?

    • +2

Website seems to indicate 25 for new and 20 for existing members, but the OP doesn't indicate anything about this or what the coupon code is for.

It does seem like this is just advertising.

        $5 off .. from $25 to $20

      • Just advertising. Has always been $20 (ie $5 off) if you have a StudentEdge card. Nothing new here. And no need to get STA Travel or HealthHour involved.

        • Probably commission as well…..

  • this is like an advertisement, actually it is an ad!

  • Any opinions whether it is worth it?

    • I used one a few years ago on a big Europe trip where Australian student cards are unrecognised either due to language or whatever. These get around some of the issues, although a lot of places still only give discounts to local students, just like our public transport networks here.
So, in Australia, I would be surprised if there are many places where this would be of more use than your ordinary university student card. Outside Australia (In the richer parts of the world anyway), it is of some use, and could easily get you more than $20 in discounts.

    • The ISIC card does offer pretty good discount on software once in a while.

      http://e5.onthehub.com/WebStore/OfferingsOfMajorVersionList.…

Seems like no Microsoft products are on sale though.

    • When I was travelling in Europe >10 years ago, this was a great benefit. I imagine that it is just as useful now.
I also remember the countless variations of counterfiet cards available in Khao San Road Bangkok.

  • It may be an ad but this can save students a helluva lot of money. I've had one as a student and have found that not everybody knows about the savings that can be had through these cards.

  • You can get one of these for less than 5 bucks on Khao San Road in Bangkok, just BYO photo. They're sensational

  • You can save quite a bit with these in Europe on museum admissions etc. I didn't find it useful in South America, but then prices there are so cheap anyway…

Neg because $20 is the usual price and doesnt get you a discount, so I think it's a referral/commission code only.

  • Is this useful in Asia (Japan, China, HK)?

    • Japan - maybe
China and HK I doubt it, especially mainland China. Most people there earn bugger all, so giving discounts to people who can afford to make it there isn't going to happen.
I know in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, there was no such thing as a student discount, but nor was there a need for it.

      • In China, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam I used an ISIC card multiple times and they gave good discounts! Yes it wasn't $20 off but if you look at it percentage wise I can remember a few places that was 50%+ off adult prices and after time it does add up a little.

Hong Kong a few places will give you student discount but a few also did not.

Not sure about Japan, never been unfortunately.

  • any ideas on how to get this without actually being a student?

  • I like to use mine to get free drinks at Maccas, especially:
    $2 Whopper and Fries
$3 Chicken n Cheese and Fries and free medium coke
$5 for a very filling and fattening lunch :)

  • you can get a free Student Edge card by opening a fee free student account at bankwest. from my experience the ISIC card is a waste of money. just use your AU student card abroad most places will accept it unless the offer is for local student sonly. if they are a non english speaking country just try showing your edge card or even drivers license and say you are a student and they probably will give you the discount anyway.
