ASUS P41SV-SSH-WX045X 14inch Laptop; i5 2.3GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB 7200RPM Hybrid Drive, USB3, 2 Year Warranty - $795

110

I bought this for uni after waiting forever for a good deal to show up (and still have stock left). Next closest price I could find was $50 more and with half the RAM. Store is based in Mt Gravatt, QLD, shipping to Sydney was $20
Sellers for me were the 8 cell battery, a USB 3.0 and HDMI port and the 2 year warranty included, though I bought an extra year as it's the manufacturer warranty not a third party. Now I'm just anxiously awaiting it's arrival!

  • Never had an Asus laptop. How does their warranty work? Courier pick up like Dell?

    • Well I had a look around and couldn't find anything for certain, but if the Whirlpool threads are anything to go by then yes, courier pick up.

  • Does "FREE Upgrade to 8G RAM" include to the price already ? or it come as expense of the seller? nice find.

    • pretty sure it's at the expense of the seller, i found it a few other places but for much more, the next 3-5 lowest prices were all 4gb

  • Looks like a pretty good deal. Weight is good at 2.00kg. Guess the screen res is only let down but doesn't bother everyone. Will look into for the missus. Thanks

    • 2.0kg is with a 6 cell, would be a bit heavier with the 8 cell they are selling it with.

  • Agree is good because includes 750Gb hybrid drive which will increase boot speed & usability & is worth about $250 on its own & IMO is best drive for this computer if want more than 260Gb of space. +1

    • This drive is 500GB, other models in this range go up to 750GB. The hybrid is one of the main reasons I got it, I was looking for an ultrabook because they're so sexy, but the lack of disc space wasn't really worth it.
Personally I'm thrilled to have found this model because it's the perfect compromise; the drive is large and fast, the screen size means it's a modest 2kg+ but is still bigger than most others and the battery life is great even if it's just half of what they claim. Plus when I'm not using it at school it has a 1GB graphics card and a decent processor so I can play the Sims 3 until my eyes bleed, with pretty decent graphics. Also, a lot of notebooks in a similar price/specs range don't have USB 3.0, and I would just NOT be laying down any money on a new computer with old technology.

      • Sorry my mistake, 500Gb is only $119 not $219 & does not have write caching which 750Gb should have with latest firmware, so is not as good for windows 7, is ok for Vista/Xp. Agree USB 3.0 is a big advantage. CA have an interesting Samsung 23" monitor with USB 3.0 hub http://www.computeralliance.com.au/parts.aspx?qryPart=13395 reduced to $199 ($300+ elsewhere) that would go well with it.

  • Hmm, look tempting to get. Question for those who have it, is it good to travel around with in Uni? I don't know if it is mobile enough, cause this will be my first laptop I'm going to be getting for Uni.

    • I travel around uni with a 15.6" laptop with no problems. most others do too. a 14" wouldnt be a problem.

    • I have an older Asus 14" laptop and it is great for uni. Perfect size and the 8 cell battery essential, don't need to take a charger with me.

  • This unit is all sold out guys.

  • Dammit! Anyone know where one can be found for a similar price?
