Was gonna order but the minimum order puts me off

    • +2

You can pick one up at Coles.

      • Cheers! Gonna get it before the special ends today

    • +2

      Same here. Minimum orders suck

  • +4

I think that's the singaporean version - the japanese version in my opinion is the best
    any thoughts?

    • +1

      Agree completely!!!!

The last packs I got from Amazon were the Indonesian made version, tasted terrible compared to the Japanese made version.

I knew something tasted off straight away.
Pretty average at best, never ordered again.

They are cutting costs by making it in cheaper countries and in turn the quality suffers.
Hence why it is so cheap compared to the "made in Japan" version of this.

      • The Indonesia-made ones are pretty good too, I haven't tried the Japanese ones (they've been hard to source).

They're like $1.19 each after all.

        • +4

Do yourself a favour and try the Japanese version and you will taste the difference.

Remarkably better in every way, I can't eat the Indonesian version after knowing what the Japanese made versions taste like.

This version is cheap for a reason.

The best overall ramen ever IMHO is "Ichiran ramen" the Hakata noodles version.
          Very expensive but absolutely amazing.
Put a sheet of dried seaweed and a hard boiled egg and it will complete the dish.
Nothing compares (apart from fresh cooked from a proper Japanese restaurant, but damn does it come close for packet).

          • +1

@Tamagotchi Breeder: Ooh this sounds like the ramen chain in Japan. They were amazing so I’m going to look for these. Thanks!

            • @[Deactivated]: No problems; Yeah it very well might be a chain, but I'm not sure.

There are importers here in Australia.
I personally purchase mine from my local Komart (Korean grocery store).

But here is one I found on eBay, that I've bought from previously:

              https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/154712510183?_trkparms=amclksrc%…

Also if you like Japanese curry, this is really good too, highly recommended for Japanese curry fans, but not quite as amazing as the Ichiran ramen, but easily my 2nd favourite packet noodles.

              https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/154801768650?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&…

              • @Tamagotchi Breeder: ^^^ these links are for Japanese Ichiran ramen… Not the Japanese made Nissin noodles (which are much cheaper).

              • +1

@Tamagotchi Breeder: An online shop I found required a minimum order of $150(!!!) so the eBay link is much appreciated. Ended up getting some curry noodles as well, as we do cook with the curry cubes from time to time.

I don’t really have anything Japanese-related to offer in return, but if you’re into your laksa the Prima Taste brand is really really good, and you should be able to find them quite easily in the larger Asian grocery stores. Note it’s the one that is just the soup, and not the one with the la mian (which I haven’t tried). Like this one

      • I don’t think it’s quality, but that they ‘localise’ the taste to suit the local consumers. Also, Indonesian version would probably not have pork-based ingredient in it.

    • +4

      Made in Indonesia not Singapore

    • +3

There are a lot of comments saying that the Japanese version are better, but where can they be bought?

    • Yes where to get Jap version?

      • +3

It should be available in most Asian grocery stores, e.g. Premium Co at Melbourne is having Nissin Raoh Tonkotsu Ramen 5 Packs on sale at the moment for $7.99.

Otherwise, eBay or Amazon, at a premium

        • LOL prices on eBay and Amazon are not “at a premium” but a ripoff!

        • $29 wtf lol

  • +10

ive got a whole box of these. There's more salt in here than the ocean. I now use half the seasoning

    • +54

There are 50 quintillion kilograms of salt content in our oceans. The approximate mass of the moon.

I tried a packet the other day from the last deal and your approximation is largely correct.

        • +32

I'm yet to be invited to one to find out :/

          • @Tafe: I misread your comment. Now if you'll excuse me I have a hole to jump in.

        • +3

          I think you got wooshed

    • I didn't read the instructions one time and just made it with my normal amount of water. Couldn't get through it, definitely hit my water intake level that day.

    • chicken one might be better?

    • Instant noodles have lots of salt. Wow I am Surprised.

  • +2

I've tried the other flavours (Hokkaido Miso & Tokyo Shoyu). The Kyushu Black Garlic is by far the tastiest (and also probably the unhealthiest and saltiest) of all.

Apparently overseas they sell the Kyushu Red Garlic.

Considering the price and quite authentic taste, its a better deal compared to the Ichiran one.

  • +1

I recommend this one over this. Just tried it recently and it's better imo.

    • Good price and how much is delivery?

      • Not sure, I bought it from my local asian grocer. Bought it around the same price, it's made in Vietnam. The made in Japan one double the price haven't tried that one.

    • Dam, just went through the checkout and delivery was $26..

      • rofl. that's why i didn't bother. Nothing beats Prime member having it delivered for free. Amazon has it $30 each no thanks

  • Still my favourite….and not all Coles stores stock these.

  • -2

Asian Grocers are cheaper. However the covid risk and travelling involved might as well get these delivered free with Prime

  • This is vegetarian? Why does it taste so porky?

    • Pretty sure it's not vegetarian

    • Most of the noodles including these are vegetarian. They are just artificially flavored.

  • +3

Something must be wrong with me, I found this so gross! I love most other instant noodles

    • +2

Glad others noticed too … Tastes terrible compared to the made in Japan versions.

    • +2

You are not alone. I still have 3 packs remaining almost reaching expiry. I jsut cant eat these. Mi Goreng tastes so much better than these.
And no, there is nothing wrong with you.

      • +1

Yeah same here! I had one, couldnt finish the rest. Mi Goreng is amazing in contrast.

Its like the texture of these noodles are so weird…

  • +1

Not made in Japan. Flavour was too sweet and oily

Feel free to point to the peer-reviewed research published in a reputable medical journal replicated by multiple studies that demonstrates a link between MSG and cancer.

Also, feel free to describe your diet that is free of both sodium and glutamates.

Finally, describe how you removed all the glutamates from your body's own saliva to avoid giving yourself cancer.

      I'll wait.

    • +1

Did you know Instant noodle is not the only product that has Flavour enhancer right?

    • +1

Congratulations, you can bore yourself to death.

    • +4

Lol glutamates are in almost all food products including cheese, mushrooms, meat, etc. You might as well just stick to water and grass to live to 100.

    • +6

Yep. Lots of science deniers on here, going with feeling over fact.

Thinking that backyard degrees in pseudosciences could possibly get better results than mega corporation pharmacy companies whos entire existence depends on putting out peer-confirmable, independently scrutinised, broadly tested products (eg. MSG) our lineage has been consuming since 1908 and with our average life span still increasing every year, despite consuming them.

Dont listen to the naysayers; "everything in moderation", otherwise we start seeng things like allergies because various systems of the body, designed to clean or protect, 'get bored'.

      And if cancer does come?

No, i'll still be relying on peer reviewed big pharma to help me, not crystals and cleanses.

      • -4

        blissful who believes.

        • +2

          See? Exactly.

I dont need emotions like "bliss" when I have science with proof.

And I dont need to believe in anything, because fact doesn't care about belief, it only cares about being fact.

Your reliance on emotion and belief will forever cloud you from hearing truth.

          • -2

@MasterScythe: I know, all reliable scientific proof for most australians coming from "independent" CNN , etc.

            • @simb24: You're an american troll right? Did you mean abc, 7, 9, 10, SBS? We (primarily, darn sbs/abc, haha) have numbered stations here; we dont get CNN.
Troll, failure I'm afraid. For future trolling reference, you want to mention 'murdoch' and 'news corp' when trolling Australians.

Also, CNN is not a scientific paper, even in the US, its a TV network, so your entire premise is faulty and once again proving that your "feelings" are getting in the way of fact.

It can "feel" like a science show all it wants with its big words, but sorry, they're not. Stop relying on them.

              Rely on fact.
              Read the peer reviewed studies.
Dont forget that if a peer manages to fault a study; they "steal" the discovery.

Its VERY in their interest to find faults and prove their competitor wrong.

The industry is driven by money, if you think for a second GSK is going to see an error made by Pfizer and NOT steal their billion dollar contract thanks to finding it? You need a walk outside in the business world.

There's a reason big pharma is usually correct; because they're all assholes to each other, and the only way to exist, is to make sure your data is perfect; or the other companies will eat you up!

Funny how fact, once again, shines through.

              most australians

Can I see your data on this?
              How many did you interview?
              What demographic were they in?

I want to make sure you dont just feel that way, and actually have at least one fact to backup yet another claim you're making…

              • -2

@MasterScythe: CNN and BBC is mainstream for most Australia's media, which defines their agenda. For me enough to see how many Australians morons pick-ups BLM, cancel culture, I seen how many australian perverts flooded Australians schools and forced our children's to falls on knees and asking forgiveness for being boys and white, for all american crazyness. If you happy with it, you are one of that idiots or perverts.
                Hope you are not!
Stay ignorant, as advised by someone's below.

                • @simb24:

CNN and BBC is mainstream for most Australia's media

                  No it's not.

I even own a satellite dish (which is not common in Australia), and those channels are encrypted, even if I TRY tune to them.

                  If you happy with it

I'm not happy with your unrelated topics; who is?
But, they're not relevant to food additives…

This isn't even a discussion, because fact doesnt care what you think, or what I think.

Facts only care about being factual.
Not liking something wont change it.
                  Grow up.

We live longer than every generation before us.
Even the USA where artificial foods, and obesity are 'the norm'.
Their life expectancy still climbs; thanks to science, not feelings.

You need to try understand that when science proves something AND even their billion dollar rivals cant disprove it?
Feeling bad about it, isnt going to disprove it either. Sorry, but reality hurts.

Try to read more fact, not feelings.
Feelings are something you get to experience and keep to yourself. You cant educate people with feelings, you just look childish.

And the ignorant remark? that was a reply to you.
                  Nice try, but troll failed.

    • Stay ignorant.

  • +1

Very yummy comparing to regular instant noodle.

But 3 packs are a bit too much. It's probably not something considered healthy to consume too frequently.

Suggest to only use 1/2 to 2/3 of the seasoning.

  • +1

Taste is weak. Get some of that Nongshim or Ottogi instead.

  • Same price as my Tong Li today

  • +1

    Back in stock.

  • I actually like the ones in the OP but am now curious about some of the Japanese ones mentioned. Premiumco sounds good but $26 delivery doesn't make sense. Might check out some of the local Asian shops.

  • +2

Had this before. Was disappointed. Maybe I was expecting more after strong recommendation at OzBargain. I could accept like 50 percent of the real thing we get from restaurants but this is like only 20%. I rather save the money and get indomie Goreng and get real Ramen from restaurants.

    • Absolutely!

    • Can't say better!
