Seems like a reasonable deal given it's an iPhone.
Given the recent iOS update for the iphone 6, this will hopefully get updates for at least another 4 years.

12.5.5
I'm assuming iOS 15?
https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/ios-15/#ios_15_supported_d…
Nope, iPhone 6 cannot support iOS 15 (and I believe that is largely due to the iPhone 6 only having 1GB of RAM, whereas iOS 13 onwards requires a minimum of 2GB of RAM).
If you look at the link in your comment, it doesn't even list the iPhone 6.
Yeah gotcha, misread but still didn't think that OP would be talking about a September 2021 update as "recent".
Cheers to those that gave the negs, I'll go grab my dunce hat
Ok thanks.
If the iPhone 6 got iOS 15, that would have broken the entire smartphone industry…
A 2014 iPhone with 1GB RAM and a dual-core processor receiving its 8th year of major updates lol.
A price increase for this phone in the used market would be highly likely as well
iPhone 6s got iOS 15 and I didn't see that breaking the entire smartphone industry
iOS 12.5.5 came out on the 23rd September 2021 for the iPhone 6. It was not a major update, and therefore is an unfair comparison as the last major update for the iPhone 6 was iOS 12 - which released in 2018.
The iPhone 6 did indeed have a good run, it went through 5 iOS's — something Android devices can't compete with
Ok thanks.
Or rather, don't compete with.
It's entirely possible for Android phones to have as-good-as-Apple update policies and lifetimes, but unfortunately that wouldn't make as much money so nobody bothers.
mmm…. Remember last year the XR was discontinued not long after it was discounted by $100? I wonder is the mini getting the same treatment now….
Well this mini is a generation old…
What’s my iPhone 7 then? IOS 15.2.1 no problems at all!
And Apple discounted the iPhone 12 Pro Max…
They don’t sell it, but still gets updates
@snvl: OMG…. I said discontinued not "out of support"…..
@kfcfatfat: You said discounted..
The 12 mini has been discounted to around this price at least 3 separate times before. It’s also a year old phone, so yeh, it will be discontinued soon enough.
is it single or dual sim?
Dual
One physical + one e-sim
Prices will all go done so longer my iPhone 7 works. Just sit and wait if you don’t need the latest phone and the old one still works ok.
Fair point but this is most definitely not "the latest phone". This phone came out in October 2020 which is why it's considered now as a good budget phone for anyone looking at a "mini" sized iPhone.
$879 is definitely not budget pricing though.
In Apple land anything less than 1k is budget 🤣
For a one-generation old Apple device, it is.
Apple is expensive, you need to understand that the pricing is very different from Android devices when it comes to what can be classified as "budget" here.
@Zackeroo: Sorry but "budget" shouldn't even be in the vocabulary for Apple phones.
@aligind4h0us3: The word is subjective to Apple's line-up of phones.
The word "budget" itself is determinated by the consumer. Compared to a $1800 iPhone, $879 might be considered budget in the eyes of some consumers.
There's no right or wrong here.
@Zackeroo: The definition of budget is inexpensive. For the majority, Apple phones do not fit that category. I do agree it is subjective though.
@aligind4h0us3: It's not a budget phone; it's a budget iPhone.
@bio: You can't use that word for something that's not inexpensive. It may be the cheapest iPhone but it's certainly not budget.
@aligind4h0us3: You're being soooo pedantic man.
@Techie4066: Saying it how it is isn't being pedantic.
@aligind4h0us3: Yes it's not budget for a smartphone. But it's a budget new iPhone for sure - for people on a budget! By definition, a new iPhone is not affordable!
On a tangent from that, it seems every Australian can afford an iPhone considering just how many are out there.
Why don't you understand semantics when you're trying to argue semantics yourself?
I'll leave that on this note.
@aligind4h0us3: On the contrary, you are not being pedantic enough. The words "expensive" and "inexpensive" are relative, they don't have any absolute meaning. You should have a baseline to define them and that baseline depends on whether you want a "phone", a "smartphone", or an "iPhone".
@aligind4h0us3: As bio said, this is a budget iPhone, not a budget phone.
If you really want a "budget" phone, then by all means, go for one of those Samsung a-series phones. They can be found surprisingly cheap…
@Zackeroo: You’re wrong.
Still too expensive for me
yeah it's just tooooo much moneeeeeey

Using iPhone SE 2016. Still getting updates. Only iPhone i ever used and loved because of size and features those i need. Broke 2 and this is 3rd one, bought on FB for 50$, in new condition with 100% battery health. So many deals comes and goes but then i ask myself, do I really need new phone. I like 12Mini because of same brick type design but don’t need it yet. Good for someone who really looking for a phone.
SE2020 is a nice bump up (I upgraded from the 16 recently). Still has home button (so you don't need Face ID in these mask wearing days) is packed with upgrades. Terrific little phone.
I don't use any of the 'features' touted in all the flagship models. Phone, email, an occasional app (banking etc), but I don't live on it.
If you like small phones, going from a SE1 to and SE2 is not necessarily a ‘nice bump up’. The whole reason people got an SE in the first place was often because they didn’t like the design of the iPhone 6 (which is the same as the SE2). The iPhone 12 mini is really the device the original SE1 owners have been longing for (I’ve owned all 3 devices). 100% agree that the SE2 is a great phone though and TouchID is so much better in a mask-wearing reality, especially for checkins and payments.
Exactly. I was waiting for SE2 but when i looked at design i was like whyyyy. But then they brought back that design with 12 which is good but currently don’t need any phone.
@Kosmo-Kramer: Same here. On my second SE1, purchased via auction. Love it - no need to change at the moment. SE2 too big and ugly.
2022 SE Will be same chassis but with internals of iPhone 13 (same chip etc). Should be a rippa!
Same chassis as the SE2? If so, that will be a shame for us SE1 users and a no-buy from me.
@doddles: I'm going off rumours - but they're normally on point. Yes, same chassis as SE2. I loved the SE (2016) chassis, that was my first iPhone and I currently have an iPhone 12mini. Fantastic phone
I'm assuming this was price matching the JB HiFi deal? Does anybody know if they listed the 64gb for $799 too?
What recent iOS update for iPhone 6?
