Looks like it was this price at boxing day sales, good price for iRobot brand. I had a previous version of this model for 5 years and was very happy with it.

No one is paying $499 for a random navigation robot. This should be its normal price.
The one I had did my apartment totally fine, yeah it kind of just moves in a pattern but the pattern always worked well for me and covered most of my room.
I have a random one as well but with other brands having better tech like lidar and vslam selling below 499, the original price seems like a ripoff.
Yep. IMO it's value at this price. Bought one in the boxing days sales at this price. First robo vac. It's dumb, but it's keeping our 3-bed, mostly vinyl some carpet, one level house cleaner than we were :). We run it about three times a week. About 1 out of 3 it gets stuck on an Ikea armchair. But we get rid of 3 loads of crap a week.
Once you get one that maps your entire house and let's you set the cleaning zones through an app on your phone, you can't go back to these "dumb" robotic vacuum cleaners.
The 606 is now 5 years old, ancient.
My 8 year old ILIFE has more smarts. Seriously once you go LIDAR, floor mapping you never go back.
This is not as good as Eufy 35c. The eufy one can get up on my rug just fine, this roomba one can’t.

But it stopped working after 10 months so I had a refund from jb hifi. Bought it on sale for $199, I don’t think they have it anymore, definitely not at that price
Ah, that's why I like these Roombas. Lot's of negative comments here but they last years without problems.
Is this better/same as the Xiaomi?
