so my frying pan and pot are looking a bit worse for wear.
I'm tempted by these as they look decent and there are a heap at my local aldi still.
just wondering if anyone has/got some and if they are actually any good?
specifically the 28/24cm pan and the 22cm pot

  • Can't speak for the those specific Aldi one's but I've bought/used other Aldi pots and pans and not had good experiences with them. They tend to be heavy and take a while to heat up.

If you want a cheap pot/pans - these kmart ones works pretty decent. Plus, it heats up on an induction stove which is a bonus.
I'd never bought a cheap frying pan before, so it was a surprise to me how well it worked. I ended up buying the wok as well.

Heavy pots and pans that take a while to heat up are a sign that then pots/pans have a good quality base.

If you want quick to heat up pots and pans then you want cheap light weight ones that are cheap as you say.

      • That's true too - upvoted +
I have heavy pots for stews and stuff but I cook Chinese food almost daily, and for me I think a lighter pan is easier to use otherwise my wrist ends up getting destroyed lol but def see your point

A while to heat up is a good thing sometimes, it holds heat at a steadier temperature, so when you drop food in it doesn't suddenly drop the temperature of the pan. They also cook more evenly and consistently, you know the temperature coming through will be even all over the pan, no cold spots and hot spots.

I switch between heavy and light pans depending on what I'm cooking. Cooking a steak is always best in a heavy pan though, otherwise the pan goes cold when you drop the steak in, then it comes back up to temp, then might get too hot and burn the outside quickly because the heat is just transferring straight through quickly.

The ALDI ceramic frypans in the past, which look the same, are "good" for low to medium heat like other non stick frypans. They are made of aluminum and as such do NOT keep their heat if you put allot of food in them at once.

They are good for a non stick frypan, but like all non stick they eventually need replacing. In my case I will be replacing my 2 year old 24cm with another one in the next few days as it has started to loose it's non stick a few months ago and I have been waiting for them at Aldi again.

I have a cast iron frypan for steak and cooking onions and anything where I need to turn the heat up.
I have a tefal frypan for cooking eggs and bacon for breakfast.
For everything else I use one of the Aldi frypan. I have a 24 and 28cm.
