Keychron K2 Aluminium RGB Mechanical Keyboard (Brown (OOS), Red & Blue Switch) $89 (Was $119) + $15 Shipping @ PC Case Gear

150

Been looking for a price drop since Christmas. I believe it was $99 on ebay (with code from EZPC Tech) + free express shipping. So this would be about $104 with standard shipping. I also decided to get the palm rest too which was $29 + $2 appended shipping.

Title updated to reflect that the Brown variant is out of stock

  • Nice find op! Do I need hot swap version? Not even sure what hot swap means though so probably I will not need that for extra $20…

    • If you like the board and layout and would like to try other switches, then yes. Otherwise, save the money and just get the specific switches you like.

    • Hot swap just means that the switches can be replaced without needing to open up the case and desolder the switch, because the switches are not soldered on but rather it's using sockets that allow that feature. If you need to replace a switch, for example, it makes life easier. It's not a must, but it's a useful feature in certain situations.

Hot swap is basically the ability to change the "Switches" of the keyboard. As you may or may not know, the "colour" of switch determines the feel. So if you buy a "hot-swappable" version of a mechanical keyboard, its essentially the ability to change the switches without the need to solder (like welding but on a smaller scale). Not to be confused with changing keycaps, the literal keys of the keyboard can be changed with the included tool.

If you do decide to buy the hot-swap version, you will also need to consider the cost of buying switches in the future. Additionally, you will need to find compatible switches for the keyboard.

Here is a 7 minute video that covers all you need to know about hot swap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS7DgeasSu0

If you get hotswap be prepared to enter a rabbit hole that has potential to suck your savings dry.

      Don't do it

    • Definitely get the hot swap. That way you won't have to throw the board out just because one key doesn't work.

    • Be careful tho. There are Keychron hotswappable boards where ESC and F1 are not hotswappable. Might be the low profile boards but do check before committing.

Another item to consider - keycaps might not be replaceable with caps other than those from keychron. The stabilisers are slightly offset from the switch i.e. not in the straight line.

    • Thanks everyone I have decided to buy the non swap version instead. I don’t do that much customisation if not at all and probably will upgrade to another similar keyboard in a few years time when this one time is up :)

Not sure if the same model but got the red switches from amazon for $11.23 via lightning deal earlier today. Not sure if price error or I ordered something else altogether but will see when I get it xD. Considered of posting here but the deal didn't last long :S

  • Is it just me? Does the link show this keyboard because I can't see it.

  • Wrong link I reckon and it’s sold out already

I linked the result of "k2 v2" from search so people could see all three keyboards in one click. Brown is now out of stock as I am typing

  • Possibly worth noting that when keychron say "aluminium" here it's just a strip of aluminium around the (plastic) chassis, rather than fully aluminium

  • Also available at JW Computers for the same price. Does not seem to be in store but you can arrange to be delivered from the warehouse to the store for free pickup or pay for postage. They have the Brown.
