Miele Appliance - Order Direct or through Hardly Normal

In the market for a new Miele washing machine and dryer. After Pros/cons for me in ordering direct online from Miele as to ordering from Hardly Normal or Not So Good Guys. All 3 showing stock on hand. Miele I have to pay total upright including a $65 regional delivery fee. I know Miele is flat same price everywhere so wondering why I’d bother with a middle man - except to give my local regional salesman a commission.

Have you check appliances online to see if they deliver for free to where you are?

  • +3

Yes just extra commission for the salesperson.

Even if you go into the Miele shop, whoever serves you will get the commission but you get good advice which you won't get online.

I'd rather the miele person getting the commission over hardly normal.

BTW, miele is an agency brand. The stock is delivered from miele as they have to log into the miele portal to order.

I should add that one time I did order an agency brand from hardly normal, but that was because there was a bonus points offer from Amex.

  • Not so good guys could help with installation (if required), plus they have offers like spend this month and get this much back…

I’ve got a few Miele appliances and they’ve served me well.

I would start at the Miele showroom and see what they can do as a deal seeing you are buying both appliances. Especially in relation to free installation and removal of any old appliances.

Ask about the various models and what your needs are. In my experience, in Melbourne, they didn’t try to upsell me to a “better” model dishwasher once we found the one that suited. Also look into whether there are any old models or demo ones on special.

We, also, had a positive experience with E&S when buying a Miele fridge.

    • We live quite a way from Melbourne but thanks for the tips. Maybe I could persuade hubby on a visit to the big smoke, although I’ve done loads of research and already have a Miele washer so I think what I’ve selected is that sweet spot between getting what I need without breaking the bank. Question though - who is E&S? Someone in an earlier post mentioned them too

  • Not 100% sure, but I think I heard a HN ad on TV saying a Miele price rise was coming at the start of Feb? Don't know if this is true or a sales tactic, but might be something to be aware of.

Many suppliers are increasing prices as of February so maybe it’s legit. I’d rather buy through Miele just to deny Gerry a sale lmao.

    • Yep it’s legit. Miele washer we have is 18 years old and still going, but figure I’m not going to push my luck too much further. This way I have time to look around and not be in an “oh shit” situation when old one dies.

Also consider if you want a Combined Washer/Dryer or a Washer and a Dryer,

Combo is less space and one less thing to move if relocating. You also can push one button and end up with dry clothes.

Sep. Washer and Dryer means you can start another Wash Load in the Washer while the Dryer is tumbling. But, you have to move washing once complete to the Dryer.

Wow. Dishwasher breaking down is a oh shit moment… Youre abit soft…

  • So the upshot, all online sites direct me to Miele website to do my order except Appliances Online. Even though EandS have a big tag on Miele products saying free delivery because I am directed to Miele site I’m slugged the $65. The catch - and there’s always a catch - If I order through Miele site either direct or through a 3rd party I’ll pay $65 delivery free but I can have my appliances on 31/1/22. If I order through Appliances Online I save $65 but delivery is not til 8/4/22. In true OzBargain mode I’m contemplating waiting 2 1/2 months to save $65 as I’m in no hurry. But Murphy’s law tells me once I lock that in my existing washer and dryer will sense they are being replaced and will give up the ghost in protest 😂. I have 9 days til price rise to make up my mind. And thanks everyone for the advice. Much appreciate it.

  • Understand that even if you buy from Miele direct they will book the sale through the nearest authorised dealer to you and give that retailer the profit on the sale

    • Hmmm that’s interesting to know 🤔

  • Who gives the most cashback?

    • No sites give cash back on Miele items 😔

      • CR gives 2% on laundry at the Good guys.

  • HN GCs give 2% cashback at ShopBack.

I understand you live out of Melbourne, but have you tried the Miele outlet store in Keysborough? We've bought two dishwashers from them in the past for a good price (the original was sold with a previous property and we replaced it from the same outlet). They only do delivery so you're no worse off and they have a range of appliances from memory (it has been a while since I was there). If you know what you're after it can't hurt to call them.

    Edit: spelling.

  • Is your $65 fee just delivery or does it include installation?
We have bought a few Meile items and the warranty requires Miele installation (or proof of trade installation) I’m pretty sure.

I would tend to buy direct from Miele.

Harvey Norman are holding some millions of our taxes and remain on my blacklist….

    • the warranty requires Miele installation

Hmm, that sounds like one of those not legally enforceable things under ACL.

A consumer appliance like a washing machine that just needs a hose connected shouldn't need a tradesperson to install it.

I guess an oven requiring >10A may be a different story though.

      • Or proof of trade installation…. Lots of things require qualified installation to be covered by warranty. Some are a bit over the top, but so many don’t even read the instructions. The WM that Miele installed for us there was no more to it than any other front loader, but for pretty well the cost of delivery it was a trivial cost, and they even removed the packaging. Ours spins as smooth as butter, and has done since day one.

Have also seen how some install their front loader and sympathise with Miele on this one. The concept of four points touching the floor with similar force, and level is far too much to grasp for so many. Then it isn’t so quiet and smooth, then they make a service call, then get angry because they are charged etc, etc….

  • from Hardly Normal or Not So Good Guys.

    Hardly NormalNot So Good Guys

Mmmmmmm …. Expect lots of negative issues with that negative pre-shopping attitude !!

  • Being in the whitegoods industry for a long time can tell with certainty that if space is not a constraint always go for a seperate washer and dryer. Among the wet products these have the highest failure rate across all brands, no brand exempted. Also the dryer load is reduced compared to the wash load.

Again it depends on your circumstances but would avoid a washer/dryer combo where possible.
