yep flu test for anti vaxx like you

      • +21

It’s also a natural selection test

          • +3

@Morpheus: Until you're begging to be vaccinated minutes before you're ventilated.

          • +1

            @Morpheus: Sure thing Meatloaf

        • +3

          Statistically, they've got about a 99%+ chance of surviving/recovering.

          • @JLai: That's if they were vaccinated. You're about 48x more likely to die if unvaccinated compared to someone boosted, or 13 times compared to double vaxxed.

            • @ONEMariachi: "48x" is a throwaway stat without context or reference. Example: 0.0000048% is "48x" higher than 0.0000001%.
They're also flawed statistics as not all variables can be factored in when doing these analyses; for example, how do you account for unreported asymptomatic people? What about asymptomatic people that vaccinated not knowing they were previously infected (natural immunity)?

              • @JLai:

48x" is a throwaway stat without context or reference. Example: 0.0000048% is "48x" higher than 0.0000001%.

This is called being facetious. You know what the deaths are, it's not hard to understand and is in no way a throwaway.

for example, how do you account for unreported asymptomatic people? What about asymptomatic people that vaccinated not knowing they were previously infected (natural immunity)?

If you can provide better information, I'm open to it, but at the moment, all you are providing is maybes and unknwn factors that may be 1 or 1 million. A pointless exercise not grounded in reality, but you knew that didn't you? You just want to justify your ignorance, not realising your own hypocrisy. Calling my statistics as being throway(when it wasn't) then using a significant throway yourself.

                • @ONEMariachi: I know I was being facetious, but I was highlighting the inflammatory use of stats.
For example; Gallup Institute study finds that unvaccinated infected people are 89x more likely to be hospitalised than vaccinated infected people… whoa that's huge!!
Actual stat: 0.01% chance for vaccinated and 0.89% chance for unvaccinated… both less than 1% chance.

I'm not justifying anything, just pointing out some flaws in statistical analysis that need to be recognised.

                  • @JLai: You're treating those percentages like it is a bet on a ball game though. Your 1% chance is not the same thing, and you're looking at it completely wrong, especially when the trasmisable nature of the current strain is as high as it is- ie more poeple are being hospitalised under omicron than delta solely because the all round numbers are higher. Unless you're have mystic powers, you don't know what your genetic traits are- what things can happen, how susceptible you are to any of the issues involved. You might be healthy, you might have never been sick in your life, but you mihgt have a heart defect that has never been seen yet due to it never being tested in any way. You don't know. You either get it or you don't you are either a 0 or 100% from an individual perspective. Statistics don't mean anything to the individual.

                    • @ONEMariachi: Okay dude, we have different perspectives on risk and life. I know there is inherent risk in everything I do in life and fully accept the consequences with my risk/reward judgements and choices.

                      All the best to you.

If Morpheus doesn’t want to buy, that leaves More Feah Us

      • any deals going on these?

      • -6

No I believe there is but the name p the test says sar cov 2 which is flu not Covid 19 specific. But anyways I love fkn around with u guys. Keep going. 😂

        • +1

Sars Cov-2 is the name of the virus, Covid-19 is the disease you get when infected with said virus. A Flu is called the Influenza. Coronavirus and Influenza are two different things.

    • Starting to see why nurses are quitting. Imagine finally being able to take annual leave and then having to cancel it to keep anti vaxx muppets with this attitude breathing.

      • -5

Rubbish They quit way before then. They didn’t want to take an experimental jab. Now we have a real jab it’s called novavax. U people are so egoistic u call everyone antivxer. Also there was 36 deaths in nsw the other day. 33 were vaccinated. Mrna shots really works.

        • +1

about 3% of them quit. The dumb ones.

Also, when 96% of your population are vaccinated, of course they will be the ones to die as well. However, to be comparable the number of vaccinated would have to be 9x higher to account for population, just to be equal. It isn't. In fact, you are 13 times more likely to die from COVID, if unvaccinated vs double vax, and 48x more vs boosted.

  • +2

Ohhhh. Haven't they come down in price site wide. Is it supply and demand economics or 5 years jail incentives?

  • +6

I think this one is only acceptable sensitivity according to the tga site

  • -1

    Only acceptable sensitivity.

    • get panbio if you want to have very high sensitivity

  • Yup just Acceptable sensitivity.

They are on page three of https://www.tga.gov.au/covid-19-rapid-antigen-self-tests-are…

Acceptable sensitivity - clinical sensitivity greater than 80% PPA
High sensitivity - clinical sensitivity greater than 90% PPA
Very high sensitivity - clinical sensitivity greater than 95% PPA

  • +3

waiting till Monday to see if I can get them for free with my mum's pension card

    • This is the only way to get free RATs

      • +2

        Provided there is stock

    • Speaking to a pharmacist these are specific tests that are part of the free. So the brand and test type of whatever brand they've elected for free

  • +2

I just got exactly this pack for $50 at my local pharmacy. I think availability is ramping up.

Don’t buy anything with shipping. My mate ordered some 3 weeks ago and is still waiting

    • For those looking for stock in physical stores: https://findarat.com.au/

It looks like Qld has just received a large amount of stock today. There had been almost nothing available for the last week until now.

  • -1

These are highly accurate. Almost 99% positives come back positive on PCR

    • +6

That just means they have high specificity i.e low false positive rate. The other side of the coin is sensitivity, which governs the false negative rate and is probably the more important of the two (you don't want it to tell you you're negative then go to work/party etc and spread it to everyone there)

      • -1

Was about to respond with the same. Them being accurate is less important then sensitivity. If they are 100% correct with a positive diagnosis but are only able to detect it in 80% of cases then yes it’s got proof for 80% but not the 20%.

  • +1

how sure are you that your shipment wont suddenly be commandeered by the feds?

  • +7

We are so ripped off in this country,we've just received 29 RAT from a relo in France..
they're 2 Euro each there and readily available.Shipped to Australia in six days….go figure.

    • +9

We are so ripped off in this country

      Morrison.

      • +9

        Yep. He needs to go

        • +3

          To Hawaii

          • +8

@nfr: He did… But then he unfortunately came back

            • +1

@scud70: I wish all pollies would go on holiday and never return.

          • +2

@nfr: Hawaii less of a rip off than holidaying in Australia.

      • so we weren't being ripped off and nothing was expensive (food ? property ?) before Morrison ?

        • property ?

          LNP policy.

  • +1

Any teachers know if we will be getting them for free?

      • +6

So you are volunteering to have up to 30 little dears in close proximity asking questions and seeking assistance? Oh not to worry, 6 year olds understand social distancing.

Come February schools will be the new covid battleground.

The Victorian school system came so much closer to collapse than they will admit in 2021 and that was just with Delta.

        • 100%… I spent $120 on tests for a family of 5 as close contacts… Why would you not make it free for teachers stuck in rooms with kids all day…

Example.. My friend and his kids were also close contacts same as us, just my friend tested positive, his kids didn't that time around… They went to vacation care for one day this week and both kids now have covid, schools are going to be an absolute nightmare, for teachers, parents and kids…

I'm all for it being free for teachers for their sake and their families…

          • @scud70: Unless you're testing every day, RA testing is pointless. With omicron, you can be infectious for up to 2 days prior to showing symptoms.
These kits are also not very accurate from first-hand experience as we have these exact same kits.
            - 3 days ago, my wife started getting an itchy throat, so we did the test; it returned a negative test result. She stayed home and did not go to work as a precaution.
            - Yesterday she started to get fatigued and her throat started to get a little sore, so we did another test; negative result.
            - Today, she got really fatigued, but her sore throat got better. Did another test; positive test result !?!
            - My 9 y/o has a mild fever today. Tested him; negative result.

How can we now trust these kits to not return false negatives?

            • +1

@JLai: That is exactly how it was for me, had similar symptoms to your wife when I was close contact, I tested every 3 days, and I was negative all the way through, my friend who I mentioned above exactly same as me and your wife except he tested positive on about the 4th day of the 1 week iso.
I totally agree with you it's not going to be feasible or maybe as accurate as we'd like, however if I was told to be at work in a room with a bunch of kids all day, for the sake of the kids and myself/family at home I'd say I'll do that If I get to test every morning before I start work…

Again completely understand here in Aus with price of RATs and how unprepared we were..probably not something that can be done…so it'll end up being a bit of a shit show with us parents and teachers being in iso often or spending 1000s on kits once kids go to school…

I guess we are all figuring shit out as we go, no right answer… I'm just saying I agree teachers should have access to free kids due to their work and close proximity with our grubby kids loll

            • +1

@JLai: Same story - relo developed symptoms, tested with RAT - negative, another that night - negative, PCR test in the morning - Positive. All within 24 hours, all with symptoms.

just go to a testing site and get them for free by showing your medicare card

    • +2

They will give you 2 for free and you can ask for 2 for each child listed on your medicare card as well.

      • Finally my 27 children will make me money!
        Now where's my ebay login.

        I assume that's a Victorian thing?

        • Maybe?

  • Why does everyone seem to need a test? If you’re symptomatic and a non essential worker just assume you have Covid-19. If you get shortness of breath on exertion go to a hospital.

People are largely using these tests inappropriately (yes I know there are exceptions, visiting grandparents in nursing homes etc etc). The days of tracing are done, just wasting private/tax payer money now.
