85" QN85A Feedback or Alternate Recommendations

Hi All,
Close to pulling the trigger on the 85" QN85A via Samsung EPP store for $4429 (includes current promotion of additional $200 discount for over $1200 spend + $50 newsletter bonus) - had my eye on this since prior to Black Friday for the lounge as I've got a highly sunlit lounge and the brightness on this TV would be most welcome as I'm currently experiencing a lot of glare on my 2016 LG UHD 65".

Seeking feedback either from anyone who owns/knows the ins and outs of the 85" QN85A or has an alternate suggestion for a similar price point or less.

Daily use + PS5 & Xbox gaming. Keen on the large 85" due to the configuration of the lounge as I've recently moved houses. At the same time I'm not in an urgent rush, are prices anticipated to reduce when the 2022 ranges start to drop noting supply/logistics issues?
Any feedback would be most welcome.
Thank you

I have this TV in our brightly lit main lounge/dining area and love it. It’s insanely bright and handles reflections/glare very well. There is some DSE/rainbow reflections if you go looking for it.
Black levels are excellent - better than any other TV I’ve had - but it’s not an OLED.
My gaming experience is limited to the kids switch so can’t comment there.

    I have the 75" QN85A.

I mean, I love it. No point getting an 8k model as there is barely next to no 8k content locally anyway.

Gaming is good so long as you finetune Samsung's Game Mode for 60 FPS games (other games are fine). You can google for specific settings.

Keep in in mind that if you decide to wall mount the tv, there aren't many 85" tv brackets on the market and they'll be expensive ($300+).

Sound is also quite average but I assume you're gonna invest in a decent sound bar (+ subwoofer) as well.

I don't have a crystal ball to predict prices but I'm gonna guess that EOFY will be the next main event for price reductions. I bought my 75" during Black Friday.

Otherwise, if you've got the space, go for it!

    • The Q950A is the sound setup I've narrowed down to get along with it as it's currently $1059 for the full setup on Samsung EPP. As per the deal listed this morning. I've just gone into JB to look at the TV physically. Staff have said they'll match but can't throw in free delivery ($59). He was however trying to sell me the Sony X85J 85" instead for $3795 and free delivery. From what I've read it is slightly inferior to the QN85A though. Keen to hear any thoughts/suggestions though.

I've got the 85". Had no issues wall mounting it with a mate, the hardest part was lifting the thing as it was very heavy.

Overall really happy with the TV. Minor issues for me are:

Local dimming can make images look strange - PS5 menu becomes all washed out and skin tones have this strange orange outline. I just leave local dimming set to low permanently.
Changing channels are quite slow/laggy. I would've thought a higher end model would have a snappier processor.

    • Even the 75" is too heavy for one person. I'm 6'4 and over 100kg but the surface area of the tv is too wide for me to even lift it up on to a bench on my own.

If you can, pull the trigger for the 85" QN85A. The thing about this panel specifically is that it's guaranteed to be a VA panel (since BOE doesn't make 85" ADS). Source.
So here in Australia, we have this strange situation that the conclusion from rtings

The Samsung QN90A QLED sits higher up in the lineup than the Samsung QN85A QLED, so it has better overall performance, but they use different panels. The QN90A uses a VA panel, providing a much higher contrast ratio to display deeper blacks. The QN90A also gets a bit brighter and has a slightly quicker response time, but neither should be too noticeable. On the other hand, the QN85A uses an ADS panel, so it has wider viewing angles, making it a better choice for wide seating arrangements.

Might in fact be reversed since the QN90A is known to use ADS panel here. I have the 75" QN90A and it is ADS.

tldr: 85" QN85A is significantly better than smaller QN85A, possibly even better than QN90A, go for it, you won't be disappointed. No other TV except OLED (and maybe X95J) can compete.

    • Trigger officially pulled yesterday! Thanks everyone for the advice.

Btw, I have the same setup with Q950A and let me tell you the Q-Symphony setup does make a difference. Sure I ain't a home cinema geek but I can't tell the difference between my Q90A+Q950A vs a home cinema setup at my boss that costs 10's of thousands.
