Lack of WiFi 6
But I reckon it'd pick up Starlink
It is a large lid but has grooves of varying diameters on the inside.
Ah cheers.
It requires a Bluetooth 5.0 compatible device.
I just use it when I cook bacon to stop it spitting everywhere😜😜 dirty dirty bacon
These are better as they vent the steam
https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/klockren-splatter-screen-204491…
yup - sold everywhere including kmart and $2 shops
But posted lid says vents steam too
@capslock janitor: There's a difference between restricting the steam and venting it to not restricting it at all.
The steam will still turn to water under the lid and then drop back in to the pan.
When you are cooking bacon or fatty things that's not good.
That's why you use a fine mesh as it allows the steam to escape, doesn't restrict it and still stops the fat splattering out.
We use both types. The Tefal ones where we want a mild heat from the top of the cooking as well as underneath - like a closed lid BBQ - eg. sunny side up eggs so the bottom doesn't burn by the time the top is slightly cooked. The mesh where we want heat from the bottom only - eg. bacon.
And here I am flipping my eggs like a sucker
@dufflover: Peasant chef
@dufflover: LoLin a sucker too then!
We use the airfryer for bacon
How's WiFi signal?
Depends how close to the router you are
Full 5G signal thanks to being fully vaccinated
Get a booster and it lids you up
Ill try that but currently my signal has 5 jars
Non-stick coated lid
What a time to be alive
I just want to know….But why?!
Good if you are cooking something that spatters and you don't want the lid being gross
You're supposed to wash lids
What spaceflight said. Why aren't you washing lids?
I thought it was wifi router.
I got this last month, same price from David Jones. It works pretty well and it’s light weight. I have several tefal pans with no lids so I find that this works with all of them and it’s a good space saver, especially living in an apartment.
i live in an apartment too and i can attest to this… i use this lid all the time regardless of my pan/pot size!
Does this work with any pan/pot or only tefal ?
Should work with any pot/pan as it essentially just sits on top of the rim. But it doesn't seal properly, more just balances for on top
@jimboner: Enough to steam veggies but not enough to pressure cook meat…
but not enough to pressure cook meat…
You would need a pressure cooker and this is only a lid.
@spaceflight: not really, ive made some rendangs in a saucepan with the original lid that came with it…
@meong: Okay….
It still doesn't make your saucepan a pressure cooker.
And you don't need a pressure cooker to make rendang.
@spaceflight: actually you do, if you wanna do it right…
im not saying my pan becomes a pressure cooker, but more the fact that with a properly sealed lid can create the extra pressure to get the tenderness you need…
i make my rendang with pressure cooker all the time now and that is how we Indos do it these days…
actually you do, if you wanna do it right…
Rendang dates back from the 1500 and 1600s. They didn't have pressure cookers back then.
im not saying my pan becomes a pressure cooker
You sort of are.
but more the fact that with a properly sealed lid can create the extra pressure to get the tenderness you need…
The tenderness you are getting is because of the long cooking time.
A lid on a saucepan does not create meaningful extra pressure.
Having the lid on will decrease air circulation, reduce evaporation and stop things evaporating.
Pressure cookers work at increased temperatures (above 100 degrees).
Putting a lid on a saucepan does not make it a pressure cooker and allow it to heat over 100 degrees.
i make my rendang with pressure cooker all the time now
A saucepan with a lid or a real pressure cooker?
@spaceflight: haha i think you just want to argue for the sake of arguing… i am not going to talk about the history as this is how I as an Indonesian have been understanding rendang in our community…
i make them on "real" pressure cooker just for the meat then stir fry them with the rest of the seasoning and coconut milk…
saucepan with lid can create good enough pressure and yes, of course you cant make them as quick as a real pressure cooker and you may say it is because of the slow cooking method but really the lid does play a part… you can try it for yourself with/without the lid…
saucepan with lid can create good enough pressure
No it doesn't.
Saucepan with a lid is completely different to a pressure cooker.
you may say it is because of the slow cooking method but really the lid does play a part… you can try it for yourself with/without the lid…
Yes the lid does play a part (I said that above). It's just like if you want to boil water it will boil faster with a lid on and then stay boiling on a lower flame with the lid on
It does not make it a pressure cooker.
@meong: You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink.
@spaceflight: when was the last time you made rendang? :-D
just spend more time making it and you'll understand what i'm talking about…
Yes and I like the windows. Do keep in mind that the screws to hold the red legs loosen over time, so keep and eye out.
Same here, had to tighten the screws but maybe only once a year…
YMMV but I find it's not such a space saver as it is stiff and the handle and stand make it quite an awkward shape. If you are going to store it standing on a counter/shelf it's great, otherwise it can be a little strange to store
When you stand it on the little feet after it's been on a steamy pot do you end up with condensation water all over the bench or does it have some clever way of avoiding that?
This is such a funny bargain. Kmart sell their "universal" lid for $10 and it's glass. But teflon does provide that certain chemical umami experience…
I have this and I'm not a fan. It doesn't seal well enough to steam anything (also has an unclosable vent on the top), and is a bit of a pain to clean well. Always ends up feeling greasy. It can probably go in the dishwasher but it's too tall not to get in the way if the spray arm in mine so I need to hand wash it.
I guess it would be fine for bacon, but I wouldn't use it for that because then I would have to clean it. As mentioned above I would rather use a splatter screen for bacon or anything that splatters.
I don't actually use it that often because of the above. There are silicone lids that seal better and are more versatile and easier to clean.
I would like to see these "better" lids, anyone?
I'm thinking something like these. Never used it though so can't comment on this one specifically. https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/klockren-universal-lid-set-of-3…
do they come with steam-vents too?
wonder what the 2 dots near centre are
@capslock janitor: Yeah good point those might be vents but it looks like they are closed until there is sufficient pressure to open them (at least in theory). Definitely prefer that over the always open vents.
vents but it looks like they are closed until there is sufficient pressure to open them (at least in theory)
There is no theory there.
The steam will push the lid up as it has a larger surface area so will need a much lower pressure compared to what you are assuming are a vent.
@spaceflight: I mean not necessarily the case if they are designed well and thinner than the rest of the lid but I could be wrong and they might not be vents.
wonder what the 2 dots near centre are
They are manufacturing marks like this
https://www.sunrom.com/img/p/893/893_800.jpg
Have one, use it all the time, wash it when I can be bothered to chuck it in the dishwasher. Not overly concerned by a bit of residue on the lid between uses, but maybe I'm just an unhygienic monster
Got a this for about $18 at myer one time. It's a little awkward to use as the handle extends inward, but it's less awkward to pack away with no handle sticking out.
I mean it's a lid, not a lot more that can be said about it.
I have this lid, the handle became loose after half year of use.
Same. I ended up buying two lids like this from ALDI that were $7.99 each to replace it.
I got the Aldi one, but it has heaps of vents. Didn't know they made a closed one off version.
me 2, hated it as having to tighten it every now and then
Does condensation start dripping under this lid outside the pot/pan?
found a customers review: "It is very big and a bit awkward to use for different size of pot but is ok if only use for a big pot because he condensed water will drip out from the lid"
I have the Aldi version of this, reduced to $2.99. Goes alright.
https://offers.kd2.org/en/au/aldi/pfKbn/
is that this week?
No that I’ve seen unless I missed it - look at the special buys..
I got that. But it's diff from Tefal due to the vents.
My aldi one stared to warp after a few high-temp uses, and the non-stick started peeling after a few years. I just binned it two weeks ago and had forgotten to buy a replacement from anywhere, so this Tefal deal it is.
I bought one a few months ago after losing my Kmart silicon edged lid in a move.
I much prefer the Kmart version and it's now on one of my shopping lists.
This is a really big lid.
It leaks condensation along the back/handle area while cooking.
Using the stand while cooking is a puddle maker too.
It doesn't fit in the sink and is a pain to wash, mainly because of its size.
I thought it looked pretty good in the ad, but I didn't read the description and was expecting something like my other lid, with a silicon edge.
It is quite light which makes it seem a bit flimsy.
I also had to tighten the handle screws.
I wouldn't buy another one.
thanks ill hold off based off this review. will lookout for the kmart one
I got this… then returned it, lol. Mainly because in the photo, it didn't have those little vents (check Myer website, currently out of stock though).
So I'm not sure if there are two versions of it, or if they had to put vents in for the newer version because of pressure build up (although it's not really a tight seal, so not sure).
I have the Aldi one with heaps of vents, so wanted another one that was a complete seal.
The one aspect that these have over others, esp the Kmart one, is that they had the perfect range for me persoanlly i.e. 24cm/26cm/28cm/30cm.
I couldn't find any others that have 24cm as the smallest and 30cm as the largest. Saw heaps for 24cm-28cm and/or 28cm-32cm though.
Happy to be proven wrong first someone finds one.
The ultimate battle shield when trying to fry something that is firing back at you
Any recommendations on a new non stick pan? My current tefal is losing its non stickness after 18 ish months
If you go Tefal you gotta stick to their top of the line ranges, which I think now is Ultimate Premium. Their lower tier pans are not that different to other cheaper brands.
I usually get around 4-5 years out of a Tefal TotL pan, using it almost daily and with proper maintenance (always hand wash, no spray oils)
I have heard good things about Circulon and IKEA pans
Ive been using some cheap ones from woolies for almost a year now and still holding up. for a $15 generic pan i have no complaints.
But proper cleaning and care is the biggest factor in longevity.
[These ones for the curious] (https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/807306/min…)
Got one from the last Myer sale.
It's not the best lid as it's so thin and i feel like it's slightly warped as well, but on the other hand it's very handy as i just keep it standing on the kitchen bench next to the cooktop
Such a gimmick. Maybe unless you have a perfectly fitting pots and pans, it's as good as any big lid.
But much lighter and easier to manoeuvre around and stand up next to stove.
I hate trying to find somewhere to put the lid when I take off the pan.

This lid is huge. Bought for $14.98 on 4 June 2021. Good quality
Great lid, highly recommend
How does it work? Is it just a giant lid?
