Friends Parents Ordered Samsung The Terrace (Outdoor) TV and Was Shipped a Frame TV

Friends Parents Ordered The Terrace (outdoor) TV and Was Shipped a The Frame.

They didn't realise, they're older and tech ignorant

They mounted it outside and it was fine for a few days but obviously it's stopped working.

They got it from Good Guys or Harvey Norman, not 100% sure.

But the retailer is saying it's their fault and refusing to replace.

Obviously it's partially their fault, it's a dumb mistake.

Do you guys think they have a leg to stand on for and exchange or refund?

I think they paid like $5k for the TV :(

Wow what? An equivalent Frame tv is only $1700 dollars. I would say its signifcantly different to what they ordered.
Even if you've opened it, you don't need the original packaging to make a return.

How long have they had the TV?

Well if you mount it outside and its not outdoor rated, then no amount of crying ACCC will help you.

That said, the OP did buy a outdoor TV but didn't get it.

      • Are you sure that the parents actually ordered the correct TV or did they order 'a' TV?

        • The Terrace TV is indeed $5k

          This is most important!
Does the receipt say the Terrace TV? If not then they're out of luck.
If it does, as someone said below - put it back in the box and take it back to the store 😂

Assuming your receipt says you ordered the terrance…. If so then pack your TV up, return it to store and say you had been shipped the wrong one.

    • Correct. Depends on the facts.

I would think they have a very good case. They were shipped an inferior and cheaper TV and many people would not know the difference.
I would kick up a fuss

      This. Goods not as described.

    • Depends on what product the ordered and paid for.

Go back and get all of the details as you do not have all of the details and the post an update with the real actual facts in it.

It seems like your certainly is like your friend's parent's.

if they bought a 5k TV and were sent some random other TV, they're entitled to the TV they bought. I'd even go so far to say that the shitty TV delivered to them was unsolicited.

  • Why watch tv outside anyway? Plenty of other shit to do outdoors better than watching tv.

I've been looking at properties to buy and there's a trend of having an outdoor sofa area with TV on one side and BBQ grill/table on the other. Never had that before but can't say it isn't intriguing for good weather days to be outdoors, especially when entertaining guests.

      Example: https://i2.au.reastatic.net/1223x766-resize,extend,r=33,g=40…

    • Maybe people have taken socialise outdoors literally reduce the chance of getting the virus? shrug

BBQ area with lounges, cold beer and a TV is pretty sweet when the footy, F1, etc is on

Looking at the TGG v HVN aspect the current offerings are:

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/samsung-55-inches-terrace-4k-… (Temp. Unavail)
    v.
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-75-inch-the-terrace-… (75in @ insane $7995).

For the money, I'd expect the Inspector Gadget legs to deploy flawlessly at the first sign of rain.

  • did they pay with a credit card? can raise a dispute with the credit card company.

Aside: Ten years ago I decided I wanted an outdoor TV in our (open but undercover) entertaining area. I couldn't justify the (then $10K+) for one of those fancy units with a custom backlight and aluminium weatherproof enclosure so I took the ghetto approach. I purchased an LG 42LW6500, an articulating wall mount and a waterproof cover from TVKini (mmm….looks like their business mightn't have survived pandemic shenanigans).

That TV has been an absolute bloody trooper - although the smart TV apps all stopped working a few years ago. Just cranked the brightness and it looks great. It even survived a hornet nest infestation a few years ago - dealt with by unplugging it, spraying in the Mortein and then shaking-out the corpses a few days later.

Favoute use case was the 3D interlacing feature (whatever they called it). For two player split-screen console games (eg Gran Turismo) it was AMAZING - each player just put on 3D glasses and got their own full-screen display while the other player saw only theirs.

The parents are tech ignorant I understand, but what about your friend? He/she doesnt visit or take a look at the new "toy" and realised that it is not what ordered?
This whole things looks sus. You should get your facts straight then come back.

Not really, if my parents bought and set up a tv, there's no chance I'd realise it was any different. I just had a look at both TV's and they look the same to me at a glance.

  • We need more information to make an assessment of the situation.

What does it say on the store invoice? Does the TV delivered, match the TV described on the invoice? Do the Samsung TV product codes match?

  • If they paid for a terrace and got shipped a frame, then yes they should get a refund. If they don't, go through chargeback or ombudsman

OP has gone…. Must not have liked the responses.

    • +2

I'm tempted to tune in tomorrow for the next episode.
      (only because my TV works).

      • gone in 60 seconds has finished streaming.

        • Damn, after a Hit/Run MS Paint isn't far behind.

  • How long did they have it for? A month might be ok. More than a few months I doubt they will be believed.

  • Any update?
