Electric Water Heater to Supply and Replace/Install in a 2 Bed Unit

Our current electric water heater is broken and want to replace with a good electric water heater (Rinnai or similar) for our 2 bed unit.
I would like to have some suggestions and approximate cost for supply and install an Electric water heater. ( Replacing the current one. )
Thank you for your suggestions any advice regarding this matter.

approximate cost for supply and install an Electric water heater

Who knows…. You didn't give us your location, what size unit or anything useful.

Rather than post on ozbargain, call some local plumbers and request a FREE QUOTE for supply/install.

    • Thanks JimmyF for your advice. I have mentioned that it is for 2 bed unit ( and 2 people living )

Yeah, but not location? The price for a metro vs regional plumber could be different and can vary from state to state.

Size of the water unit would help. Whilst you have 2 bed unit, maybe you want a 400L water unit? because you have 8 people living there? Who knows. I would be calling local plumbers rather than posting on OzBargain. Oz being for Australia rather than your local area. We aren't mind readers.

          Crazy isn't it…..

        • This , you may be happy with your current sized unit , you also do not mention if the space is limited, e.g. current unit is a compact one and people recommend you a full sized unit and it dosnt fit.

Love the lack of info supplied and the response for more info…zzzzzzzzz

    • and then come back here and ask if its reasonable and then call the plumber back?

      Or,

Get a ballpark idea of what others have paid and then call plumber and if close, accept.

      • Get a ballpark idea of what others have paid and then call plumber and if close, accept.

What others have paid doesn't really reflect what the plumbers in the OP area might be charging or relate to how complex the OP job is or even to the size of the HW unit installed.

The OP just needs to get some quotes from local plumbers to compare. At the end of the day if I paid $1000 installed and all the plumbers in the OP area are charging $1300, what is the OP going to do? Complain that some random person on the internet paid less, so give me a discount!?

How much do you think it costs to change a steering column and rack on an 120 prado?

If i told you 7 grand, someone else told you 7.5 and another told you 6. You call the mechanic and they say 13 you know that something is way out of place.

It's nice to just have a ballpark.

Depends, did you break down in the outback in your prado? If so, you're a brave man to pick a fight with the only mechanic around when they quote you $13k….

It's nice to just have a ballpark.

A friend got a new heat pump hot water service installed for free….. But that doesn't help the OP does it? As that was in VIC, and there are rebates if you have certain HW units that made it a free install.

If the OP wants ballpark figures, then get quotes from LOCAL plumbers and you'll get a ballpark price for your area.

            • @JimmyF: if i knew the normal price was 7k and i called up and they said 13 i would think, hm, normally 7, plus factor in my unique conditions, i guess its fair.

Having more data is never a disadvantage.

              • @StalkingIbis:

Having more data is never a disadvantage.

It is when the data you collect doesn't apply to your 'area'. As I said VIC is doing heat pump HWS upgrades for $0. Best of luck finding that in NSW.

The same hot water unit might be installed in VIC for $2k, NSW for $3k and QLD for $1.5k……

If all your local plumbers are charging $3k, it doesn't matter you can get a plumber in QLD to do it for half the price, as they don't service your area.

So call the LOCAL plumbers and see quotes.
Bit like that only mechanic in the outback… the price is whatever they say it.

You may be able to get this done for free as part of the Victorian government energy rebate program 🙂

  • What did the plumber say when you called for a quote? Assuming you are lazy and haven’t gotten any quotes, use this website instead:

    https://australianhotwater.com.au/book-online/

  • Cheapest option will be if the plumber can source the same unit you already have so it's basically just a matter of swapping them over and not having to do any pipework.

  • Thanks for all contributions. Very interesting posts. I wanted to have some idea how much it will cost as a ballpark. Thanks to Peter Enis for very valuable information, i will look for same brand and size, as it will involve less work for the plumber and hence may be cost effective. Thanks for the links. Bye everyone !.
