Wise vs. Revolut Debit Card

Hi OzBargainers,

I used to have a FairFX EuroCard (now known as the Currency Card) when I was living in the UK, but they are unable to send this to Australia. So, I'm trying to replace this card with something similar. Currently I'm mainly going to be needing €, but would occasionally need to purchase in $US. I want to avoid PayPal for the simple fact that their currency conversions are crap, as well as the high fees that they charge if I'm accepting funds from overseas. After reading a number of reviews and forum posts that people have written regarding Wise and Revolut, I'm unsure as to which will better suit my purposes or if there is something better that I should be considering. Ideally I'm looking to get the debit card for free.
TIA

Wise: "Currently to get the Wise virtual card you’ll first need to order a physical card." - the physical card costs $10. For Revolut you can create multiple free virtual cards in the app without having a physical card. You can do this straight after opening the Revolut account, and the cards can be used to shop online and can be added to your digital wallet (Apple/Google,etc..Pay).

As far as I know, Revolut was doing the debit card (physical card for free) via someone's signup referral link

        Crypto Debit Card? lol

        • Yes this one. Free tier pays 1% cashback in CRO

        • Thanks for the clarification, clearly I'm not into crypto.

Wise 100%. I got both and Revolut sounded like it would be more useful but Wise actually delivered on everything it promised. When you open a EUR or GBP account in Wise it opens real accounts that people can transfer cash to and you can make direct transfers from. Revolut allows you to open"accounts" in other currencies, but no real bank account exists, it's just an internal virtual account, so you can't send or receive from it.

Revolut also has some of the worst "support" that I've ever dealt with.

  • I have both and Wise user interface seems more convenient then Revolut. Moreover, the worst thing in Revolut is entering passcode/fingerprint each time you open it, even if you just switched to other app and comes back in a minute, you need to enter passcode again. I hate that feature. Only good thing in Revolut is disposable virtual cards.
For debit card, i feel that revolut gave a little better rate then wise on my trip overseas but i didn't checked in detail.

I have both and I think Wise is a much better option

With Wise I am able to have banking details with many currencies (ex I have a BSB and account no for my AUD balance and a routing & account no for my USD)

As for the exchange rate both are far better than PayPal, but I don't think there is a significant difference between the two

This is my most recent USD purchase (2.50 USD)

Both Revolut and Wise charge for physical cards, Wise has a limit of 3 active virtual cards, but you cannot use them until you get your physical card

With Revolut you have access to virtual cards straight away (I'm not sure on the limit as I have access to unlimited cards). I'm not currently logged into my Revolut account so I can't give you exact exchange rates currently (as they don't provide that on their website)
