Not sure how long this has been active or if it’s targeted but a nice reduction from 14.99 and could make sense if you use Uber often.

Still shows $14.99 on the website but the app has it for $9.99 per month when I try signing up.

$0 Delivery Fee available only for eligible stores showing the Uber One icon. $20 minimum order, excluding fees for $0 Delivery Fee. Latest Arrival estimate is shown once your order is placed and is not a guaranteed delivery time. Top-rated drivers may not be available for every ride. Avoid incurring the charge for the next billing cycle by cancelling in-app 48 hours before your billing date or contacting support.

    Nice.

    • Who needs a gym membership when you get free Uber eats deliveries

Service fee is the new delivery fee. Uber pass doesn't negate this. Enjoy responsibly

It gives you 10% off the meal which covers the service fee.

      • +1

        10% off trips not meals.

    Another ripoff begins.

Ye they suck, DoorDash, UE, Deliveroo all charge the service fee. Just a matter of time before Menulog catches on.

    • +4

Menulog already do charge a service fee( in my area anyway)

      • +3

How odd, ordered some MenuLog last night, no service fee charged ( Melbourne )

        • +3

When I was visiting a "rural area" there was no service fee as well for delivery which was surprising. Think they pick and choose which areas to punish with service fee

        • +2

Yeah I think they slowly introduce the fees to areas bit by bit. As I remember before Uber introduced it in my area, a few friends already had it added on. I'm Melbourne too..I think they work there way from the CBD and start going outwards suburb by suburb lol

I think it's being trialled. Last week I ordered from a restaurant and paid a service fee.

Yesterday I ordered from the same restaurant, the exact same meal and there was no service fee.

        • Menulog is the worst for me, they have a higher delivery fee ($3 more) if you don't spend enough but if you spend enough to get over it you spend enough $2-$3 in service fees..

    • +1

Not currently getting any service fees on Deliveroo. Only a matter of time I guess.

    • +4

Doordash reduce the service fee to 2% from 10% with dash pass.

    • Only menulog driver delivery has the fee. Deliveroo doesn't for me. If they start adding it. I'll use them less also

Going out to collect takeaway food is something my parents and I would do together if somewhere didn't have a delivery service.

These delivery services have really made it un-enjoyable; food arriving cold (or not at all), high fees, screw the restaurants over on pricing and nonchalant drivers. I'm glad I never use them.

Call your local and ask if they have their own delivery service. If not, go and collect it yourselves. I see the argument so often "well I work late so its the only way I can get food to me when I get home". Ok, but restaurants have been operating for decades with delivery or takeaway and we've all managed.

    • Alternatively if you have covid, and can’t go out, don’t.

      • +1

These delivery companies existed outside of Covid.

        • And now they exist inside of it.

I agree, I went to Nando’s on Monday night and there was 6 bags of food waiting to be picked up, it took Nando’s about 20 min to prepare my order, in that time only 1 order was picked up, but this was by the driver who walked straight past Nando’s went to coles and then came back about 5 minutes later to get the food, which has already been sitting there… Nando’s ain’t cheap either so to have food literally sitting for 20 to 30 mins before pick up is gross, but that’s the laziness tax if people can’t get up and walk to a store to save $ and get healthy, then enjoy your cold food and pay even more $$ for it LOL

  • I got Uber Pass for free (3 months) if I linked my MasterCard. Not sure if that was a targeted deal.

    • I got 2 months.

Everyone says these companies screw restaurants, but to be fair, 20-30% of the price of an order may well be fairly low cost for a lot of restaurants compared to the cost of operating your own delivery service (need to buy vehicle, maintain vehicle with business insurance etc., pay driver wage, all the advertising, promos and tech that go into these platforms, providing support, taking orders etc.).

Like for e.g. a $40 order I'm pretty sure it's going to cost a small restaurant more than $12 to get that order delivered to a customer doing it themselves.. and regarding cold/old food complaints, how many deliveries could occur in a night with only 1 or 2 restaurant-employed drivers anyway if an average delivery takes say 20-30 minutes. I feel more for the Uber drivers given all the stories that have hit the news, I always tip despite tipping not being common in Aus.

It’s a fair point you make regarding Uber vs Employing own delivery driver. Not to mention a fair amount of these restaurants raise their prices in order to combat the fees paid to Uber.

I tip if the driver doesn’t place the bag right in front of the security door making it an embarrassing balance of smashing the food 3 meters away / trying to contort my arm like I’m getting candy out of a vending machine. It would be a beautiful sight for the driver though.
