[Solved] Paying Sydney Cross City Tunnel Invoice Suggestion

Hi All,

Went to Sydney over Christmas and got stuck inside the Sydney city tunnel and due to the missing GPS signal, accidentally went into a tollway.

I just received the invoice from them:

  • Location: Eastbound Mainline
  • Direction of travel: Easterly
  • Toll: $6.01
  • Admin fee: $10 (or $1.10 with valid account)

Does anyone know whether I can just open for a casual account for $1.50 to have a 'valid account', and link the invoice to it?

I know that I can just call them up, but if any of the OZB knows about this, it would be great, save my dollarbucks for other stuffs :)

To save money, you could have paid the toll earlier, before the invoice was issued.
Apart from that, it depends how much you value your time at. I'd just pay it and move on.

    • Well, I totally forgot that I drove through toll (you know how it is, a bit panic because you are a tourist and no GPS signal and everyone is driving rather fast inside the tunnel)…

      But thanks for your suggestion

  • Find someone with a tag and get them pay for it on your behalf. There's a classifieds here….

Who's going to want to do that for someone they don't know? They might do it if an additonal fee is offered, but then might as well just pay the toll notice and get it over and done with.

Yeah, I'd only do it for friends, not random people online. OP, ask your friends if you can borrow their tag account details to pay off your toll invoice.

Pay it and get a tag for the car for future use, especially if you live within the metropolitan area. With the number of toll roads, you'll probably end up on another sooner or later.

    Thanks everyone!

A couple of suggested tweaks to your post:

Went to Sydney over Christmas and got stuck inside the Sydney city tunnel and due to the missing GPS signal, accidentally went into a tollway.

"Went to Sydney over Christmas and got stuck inside the Sydney city tunnel and due to relying solely on GPS instead of also observing the 2.1m x 1.3m signs throughout the tunnel, accidentally went into a tollway…."

I just received the invoice from them

"I just received the invoice from them because I also ignored the 'No Tag?' sign/instructions at the end of the tollway…"

Not to mention the giant yellow Es on the road

But the GPS didn't announce them!

    • C'mon - we've had bicycle delivery drivers ride into a toll tunnel, due to relying solely on GPS. OP needs to up their game.

      • 🤣

      • Man, bicycle rider > tunnel > pollution > nuts.

    • LOL, I was a tourist, quite intimidating going to the Sydney tunnel to be honest, it has a bunch of lanes and constructions happening.

Perhaps similar to people coming to Melbourne facing the hook turn…

All good mate. Just taking the piss.

        We've all done it.

        • All good, that was funny comments, made my day

          Thanks :)

Why not just program your GPS to avoid toll roads OP?

I go through Melbourne occasionally and my GPS directs me onto other roads well before the tollways.

    • I did, unfortunately there was a construction inside the tunnel and the GPS didn't provide an alternative route (due to low GPS signal) and before I know it, went to a toll way

  • How good's privatisation!
