RRP $2999 - on a bike with an aluminium frame and tiara groupset? Honestly, are you high?

You should probably be advertising the savings as against your normal price, because anyone who buys this bike for RRP has rocks in their head.

It's laughable that this (better) bike has a lower RRP then the bike advertised in this post

This is a good price, however the quoted RRP of $2,999 is ludicrous. Full carbon bikes have this RRP with Ultegra gearing. This bike has an aluminium frame and a carbon/aluminium fork, not to mention the Tiagra gearing…

I think you are misleading the potential savings by quoting $2,999 as the RRP.

Correct me, if I'm wrong but doesn't the company set the RRP. (I also don't agree with the companies setting ridiculous retail prices)

The rep in my eyes isn't doing anything wrong.

If $899 is the cheapest this bike is, then it's a bargain. If $899 is his usual price and he is
still the cheapest, surely it's still a bargain.

    My tuppence worth.

it is misleading to compare to $2999 if it was selling for less than that before. have a read of http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/815334, specifically the section titled 'Comparisons with the recommended retail price (RRP)'

Except RRP is a meaningless value.
If a company claims a car is worth $50,000 but the actual market never sells it for over $40,000.
Then the RRP is out-of-date or completely invalid.

It is not a saving if it does not sell for that price.

    • +7

Yes, Ridley set the RRP as $2999.
      If we put save $2100, we will get jv'ed. ^_^;

      • How much were you selling the bike for BEFORE the sale?

      • +5

        upvote for using jv'ed.

      • +2

Honestly, I'd just remove the RRP. Put your regular price if you have one (to show the savings from that), but the RRP is just hurting you atm.

People here don't like being taken for a ride (hehehehe, so punny).

      • You have put you save $2100 on your website:

        NOW ONLY:
        $899.00
        RRP:
        $2,999.00
        You Save $2,100.00

  • I don't see the relevance in what the bike was selling pre-sale.
If they receive a new bike and the price they sell it for is $300, by your definition it can never be a bargain as they haven't discounted the bike.
Sorry to derail the post a bit, but alot of posts are like this. I won't leave feedback as I'm unsure if its a good deal or not.

I don't see the relevance in what the bike was selling pre-sale.

because if a retailer says 'on sale' then it would be reasonable to expect a customer would want to know much they are saving off the normal price the retailer usually charges.

better advertising might have been rrp $2999, was $xxxx, now $899

it all comes down to a retailer being transparent and forthright about pricing.

A lecturer of mine told me his father was closing down his jewellery shop, so marked up all the prices to double over a weekend, then opened on Monday with a big 50% of everything sale.
Managed to sell everything for what was really his full price.
Not so sure you could get away with that these days.

    • That sounds pretty much like a standard "Genuine Sale" in retail nowdays……..

  • RRP = Recommended RETAIL price. The Manufacturers set this price, so regardless how much the product is actually worth, the RRP is as it is. There is nothing wrong with the OPs post.

    • +1

don't try and lecture us if you don't know mate, you're just embarassing yourself.

go and read the ACCC's view on RRP's, this is a classic case of misleading advertising.

no true original price is provided, and no shop sells it for $2999, no way to tell if this is a good deal from this shop, so neg for misleading advertising

  • apart from the RRP issue like many other bike stores do. I think the price is pretty cheap for the given specs.IMHO
