I saw this before but I believe you don't. What you'll get is an exam from IT Masters to show your knowledge in the field.

I'm basing this off the website in which it says:

      Assessment:
      Exam pass mark: 50%
      Time limit: 1 hour
      Attempts allowed: one
      Format: 40 multiple choice questions

However, the official ISC2 CISSP is 3 hours and 100-150 questions. Therefore, to get the CISSP, you'll need to take the official exam.

It'd be pretty crazy if they threw in the official exam for free too — the cost for the exam attempt alone is $749 USD

      • I think you're right. You don't get the official CISSP designation, just a certificate saying you completed this particular course.

      • The ISC2 CISSP cert has a requirement of passing the official ISC2 (as above…and it's really quite challenging) exam and also having provable practical experience over 5 years (you get a couple of years exemption with an appropriate degree) in the majority of the security domains being examined….Please do not mistake this short course as attaining the actual CISSP…It may be a stepping stone, but thats all.

Yeah its definitely not even close to the official CISSP. This is more of an overview of cyber security using CISSP theorys.

@Intoxicoligist: I have done this course previously. You don't get a CISSP Qualification at the end of it.

The IT Masters exam at the end of the course is pretty simple

    • +1

I don't think you will, otherwise it'll just make the CISSP worthless

    • +1

      HAHAHAAHAHAHA No.
Theres an exam to get this title, and its not one you're going to pass after 4 lectures from IT Masters. Maybe if you did the full course you could (I actually did it, and its still not enough to get across all the content of a CISSP).

    • +1

You still have to pass the ISC2 exam, and then demonstrate your work experience.
Source: Current CISSP in good standing.

  • It's a short course, which is about 30% of the actual subject, based on my experience w other short courses from ITM. You'll get a Cert of Achievement.

  • is this legit?

how long does each session go for? cant seem to find any info starts 7.30pm when does it finish?

  • +8

This does not provide the certification of "CISSP". Maybe a "Certification of completion of a CISSP Course" but not the CISSP. The real exam is 3 Hours 100-150 questions. And requires 5+ Years of experience also. This is a 1 Hour, 40 Question, 50% pass mark exam.

This is just a course for it.

Also CISSP require annual membership fee

  • +1

Can I use the free course for a educational email so I can get even cheaper shit as a student.

    • You don’t get a .edu email for this short course

    • You just need to sign up for UTAS for that

  • You can get the free course credited as an elective for uni

    • IIRC you need to do three of these to count as an elective but I'm not 100%

"the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is often referred to as the gold standard certification and is considered a valuable – if not essential – certification for information security roles today"

Sounds like OP is a CISSSP - Certification Information Systems Salesperson Shittalking Professional

  • No you don't get the CISSP certification. There's a $US749 exam (per attempt) that you sit at Pearson Vue. If you want to pursue your CISSP:

    • do the course via the AISA (~ $A2500)
    • purchase the two books: CISSP Official Study Guide and CISSP Official Practice Tests

You will need 5+ years in a cybersecurity role and be sponsored in after you have demonstrated qualifications / experience. Then it's a $US125year to maintain the certification.

So do this free course by all means but it won't get you the certification straight away.

Do this course to get an idea of how much knowledge you need to study to gain an official CISSP certification.

To get the certification you need to:
    1. Pass the exam
    2. Pay the annual membership fee
    3. Get endorsement from another CISSP holder in good standing
    4. Have a minimum of 5 years experience in Cyber security covering several domains of knowledge recognised by ISC2 (a CV with the relevant experience highlighted usually serves for this purpose as well as a current job in Cyber - i.e. role description).

I'm a CISSP holder of 10+ years. There is a continuing education requirement on a 3 year cycle as well (40 hours/year) once you have successfully attained the credential. Luckily you can use the free online sources at ISC2 (membership includes this access) to maintain your credential.

You can study for it via the books but give yourself 6 months or more to properly understand and absorb the knowledge. To pass the exam you'll need to be good in all domains of knowledge (consider 80% or better correct on the practice tests in each to be safe).

Careers in Cyber are great but you should have an interest in the subject matter to stick with it otherwise it'll be quite dry.

  • Darn it. Trying to join room. Says at capacity !!

  • it says 1000 users online already

  • It filled up quite fast. The meeting is recorded so you can review it later

    • Yeah can prob still sign up, and the courses stay online for years.
Quite misleading certificates… eg I have a PMP certificate to say that I'd done an introductory class so now I know what a PMP is, rather than am one.
I think they will get a bad reputation pretty quickly, but until then, it's something to put on the resume.

  • Why's the course listed as offline modules ect, but I don't get a free edu email, dam it's so offensive to ozbargain community

  • Thanks OP for posting this. We did the course live. It was chatty, informal, pitched at TAFE/undergrad level. Ongoing background forum text messaging made me wonder how anyone was concentrating, but that's kids these days. Last half of last module heavily upsells Sturt for degrees.

I work in the field, drifted into it from the practical side without any related qualifications a couple of years ago, so the tests and exam turned out to be straightforward for me. Encouraged, I signed up for another IT Masters security course, quickly reviewed the archived material (slides, not video), took the tests and exam… anyway, a weekend later I have certificates with seven distinctions in these courses. They'll be ammunition for convincing my employer to fund actual real training and certification, I hope. Thanks, OP!
