USB to e-Sata adapter?

hey guys, i've got an external DVD drive here that only plugs in via an E-Sata/USB port. i want to connect it to a PC that doesn't have a DVD drive.

are there any converters out there? i couldn't find an aussie online store that sells them.

thanks

  • you can buy 2 port e-sata plates which go in a spare back panel and connect internally to free sata connectors

    something like http://www.buyincoins.com/details/2-ports-esata-4-pin-power-…

    or

  • Don't understand. Why not just plug into the PC's USB port? If the PC is that old to not have USB, you can buy a PCI USB adaptor card.

  • What other peolpe said. Also note that performance will be much better with esata.

    • Marginally better performance (assuming USB3)

      • I'm assuming no USB3 if no esata. Though it would be possible it would certainly be rare.

  • it's USB2. the PC has USB and no e-sata, the DVD drive only connects to e-sata.

    • So not what you first wrote; the DVD doesn't have USB then. You can buy eSATA cards if your PC doesn't have ports you can connect to a plate.

  • Unless your PC is really old it will have internal sata and all you need to to connect it in, you could even do this by just openning the case and connecting the drive straight to the motherboard. If it is very old and does not have sata, you can buy a card for it, buy you will probably need a PCI sata card, and I expect these will be hard to find these days (newer computers use PCI-E).

  • it's a laptop so i can't open it up….

  • If you are looking to run an OS from the DVD you might be able to run it off a USB stick if the laptop is recent enough.

  • You could either get a cardbus sata controller (assuming the laptop has cardbus) or a new DVD drive might be a better option.
