Make sure you compare these affiliate prices against tripadvisor or directly from their website with their own deals. I find that prices tend to increase on these travel websites when going through affiliate websites like shopback/cashrewards.

Agree. Exact same booking I’ve got would cost $540 more through this.

    • In the same vein, Incognito is your friend. Plus Mastercard some times advertises you'll get extra discounts but doesn't apply them at check out. An Email will get this fixed after booking.

      • +2

Where do you get this mastercard advertisement for extra discounts, and whom do you email?

        • Usually main page, or via an Email.

If you get the link and it doesn't apply you just email cust service.

Note that it's hotels only that 14%, packages and flights are 2.5%/ 1.5%.

I compared prices for a hotel i've been looking at amongst the different sites and it was actually cheaper through Booking.com with 6% cashback

    • Just out of interest - I've only ever booked hotels and flights separately. Has there ever been a case where a package actually works out cheaper?

      • +2

Yes for me personally i've booked 2 different flight & accommodation packages as there was quite a substantial savings to warrant it. One was through Webjet to Tokyo which went without a hitch. The other was through Expedia for Phuket which didn't go ahead because it was scheduled for March 2020 literally right when the country went into lockdown, and the aftermath was a friggen nightmare to deal with - so it's absolutely not without it's risks, especially as i recall a lot of packages are non-refundable.

  • even if a bit more expensive, agoda does take afterpay and sometimes does have the cheapest rate so good to keep the higher cashback in mind while also comparing other options.

  • +5

Prices are much higher when using ShopBack/Cashrewards for all the hotels I’ve compared.

      Negging for this reason too

    Beware Agoda. Just saying.

  • +2

Make sure to compare prices without going through Shopback. Have found in the past the cashback is negated by the jacked up prices.

Just did a test run for a pod hotel in Singapore and it was $1 cheaper per night through Shopback than directly through Agoda, so I guess YMMV, just do your due diligence and you'll be right.

2 weeks ago, We use agoda to book a 2 days stay at rainbow beach, when we arrive there, there is no reception, contact number is disconnected, ruined our holiday, beware to book using agoda.

    • Ouch. Did you get any compensation from Agoda?

      • Not yet, agoda said they will refund around 30days

  • Why Japan excluded?

    • Not excluded, just a lower rate - potentially because much of the Japanese inventory is sourced differently and the operators (particularly the smaller hotels/ ryokans) don't pay as high a commission as elsewhere in the world

  • Redeemable 120 days after stay date

    classic shopback

Not touching Agoda, had very bad experiences with them. Expedia is my go to, they solved so many issues during covid for me (border closure impact twice)

  • +1

40 dollars more expensive after cashback when using shopback and agoda vs going direct through agoda. Shame :/

  • anyone know, does this work if you book a 'pay later' or only if you 'pay now'?

  • Expired now - back to 7%
