Where to Find M.2 NVMe Standoff Screws in Australia?

I ordered two NVMe SSD drives so I could travel to family place to install them. I know they will fit the computers but I don't know if the computers have the standoff screw already in theme and they probably don't have the actual screw itself, computers never do. These are two HP all in one machines.

I can't make the long trip just to check so I should order the screws and standoffs ahead of time. But where in Australia can you even order them?

I see this eBay listing which has two standoff heights just in case https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175024499160 and those two sizes will probably have me covered, except I get this message when trying to buy them:

"An item you selected wasn't added to your cart because the seller won't sell to buyers who don't meet their requirements"

My eBay address has hundreds of feedback and is a standard home address, maybe they blocked all of South Australia.

In any case where can I buy a set of these standoff screws. I don't really want to wait another month for them to arrive from the US or China. I looked a the Bunnings website, the Jaycar website, scoured Amazon, but I just can't find them.

Call the nearest computer store tomorrow and ask if they sell them. If they do then pick them up. If they do not try another store. After three stores give up and order from another ebay seller.

    • I've checked the websites for some local computer places and they don't seem to have anything like m.2 screws or anything like that. I'll call a few places tomorrow and see what's about. Even MSY don't have any screws like this on their website. With m.2 form factor SSDs being a standard for years I thought you'd be able to get these screws and stand offs anywhere by now.

99% of places do not have screws and stand offs or cable ties and other misc bits that are used to build/assemble PC's as they normally come with the motherboard or case, BUT they usually have them and will sell them to you for a few bucks.

      • If it’s a busy MSY they may do: years ago I asked for some case screws and the guy gave me a bunch from the back and a untested old motherboard as mine went to god and it was heaps outdated

  • Message them or try to direct it to a post office via parcel collect instead? They don’t look like drop shippers but it is odd for a ‘Australian seller’ to be selling small items like that

It won't even let me add to cart, but I'll message them in any case. What they are selling seems to be exactly what I need, unless there's even more standards for standoff screws I'm not aware of.

  • I gave up trying to get the standoff and post, in the end I bought a M2 heatsink that also came with the standoffs and screws.

It came from Amazon US and didn't take that much time to arrive.

  • Message me, I can post you some for a ozb price. :-) You just need two, right?

I do need two, but reading purdah's comment about it being included with an m.2 heatsink got me looking and I saw this on Amazon for $11 which delivers by Tuesday https://www.amazon.com.au/RGEEK-Aluminum-Heatsink-Radiator-T…

It comes with two screws as well. Looking at hp support forums it seems that hp use standard length m.2 standoff screws, not the half length ones, so this might do it. Seems weird to buy a heatsink just for the screws, I don't think hp all in ones even have space for a heatsink because it has a bracket against the m.2 slot, so the heatsinks will probably just end up in the junk drawer.

  • There seems to be no standard height for these standoffs and the size of the screws and possibly not even for their threads. The big problem is that the standoffs have to match the height of the sockets and they might be different depending on the source of the sockets. I have just done a new ASUS motherboard and the screws and standoffs are different from the MSI I had previous. I'm steadily acquiring a few of these screws and they are all different. Good luck with finding them for your HP but they should be in the machine or delivered with it. Have you tried buying them from HP?

  • lol i knew this thread was coming

i dont know why the mb and laptop makers dont put in a few screws into the board as spares so you can use them for nvme

i just pull screws out of busted old laptops

  • Digging up an old thread as I just came across this issue.

I have a MSI X570 so the nvme slot already has a rubber stop (like a standoff) so my issue is the screws were not long enough and the drive was popping out.

Anyhow the screws (at least for my board) are standard M3 size … so I got 10mm length and it solved my issue.

However thinking about OPs issue … a M3 screw + some kind of shim / spacer (washers / orings / cut up plastic pen)

So just food for thought if anyone else is search up this topic.
