[PS5, PS4, Preorder] Horizon Forbidden West - $49 after 2x Games Trade-in ($39 for PS4 Version) - EB Games

320

EB Games are doing their 2x eligible game trade in to purchase Horizon Forbidden West standard PS5 edition for $49 ($39 for PS4 version).

The upgrade to the PS5 edition is free see https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/4/22657679/sony-horizon-forb…

Not the best deal but if you have some older games picking it up for $39 seems pretty good to me. As this is a trade-in deal it is only available instore.

This is one of my first ever posts so I hope it's ok to put trade-in deals from EB.

Eligible trade list (sorry this is actually from early last year) - https://imgur.com/gallery/GiCyM3M (thanks to Puglife https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/603387)

EDIT: Does anyone know why it's not showing a picture on the thumbnail? Does it not work for EB games or something? I put the URL as the exact link to the game.

      I used this https://imgur.com/gallery/GiCyM3M

      Taken from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/603387

Surprised a list from a year ago was still helpful but go Pug if it was!

      • Very inaccurate list. Plenty of the games on that are not eligible anymore.

        • Yea sorry, didn't realize it was so old. For some reason i thought it was early this year. Either way it still worked for the two i traded in but yea it'll be super inaccurate now.

Getting the $88 PS5 disc version from Amazon. Really looking forward to this game!

    • Yea I just missed that one but I'm also worried I wouldn't get it day 1. Knowing others are playing this and having to wait would kill me. I am very much looking forward to it though, haven't been this excited for a game launch since…. maybe Breath of the Wild?

  • is it worth it to pay extra for the special edition?

    • I don't reckon so. You get a couple of extra clothing items and a small art book if I remember correctly.

    • You get a physical art book/Steel case and Digital soundtrack that you will probably glance over for 5 minutes never to be seen again and one extra skin

No from me, unless it was that big $300 collectors one I missed out on.. scalpers got most of them :(

    • get it before it's gone. In the USA, it's almost sold out everywhere.
I bought Regalla edition from US as I missed out here which would cost me extra $200 AUD. :-(

      • The PlayStation US store still had it listed for $199 USD would they ship to aus ?

      • How did you buy it? I missed it too

  • Does anyone know if you can trade in to get the reduced price AFTER you've paid for the initial pre-order?

I paid $10 about a month ago for the standard edition so I would have to pay $114.95 at launch when I pick it up… Was wondering if I could still trade in to reduce the cost even more.

    • Yep, I've done this before. The promotion always ends a few days after the actual release, so head into store with your trade in's and you'll just pay the difference remaining.

      • Cheeers mate. Appreciate it.

Thanks for sharing OP. bought a PS5 for this. $39's on the high end but can't wait to play it.

How is $39 on the high end?

  • I remember with previous trade 2 for preorder deals, the trick was to go to EB's site and search for the games you want to trade and check their "pre-owned" price. If it is more than $25 then that means the game is eligible to trade.

    Does this trick still apply?

    • I've found if they sell it for more then $30 its eligible

    • +1

Pretty much that. I would say around 28 mark

  • Will this deal still be valid up to release date? My old games are packed for moving; I hope I can dig them out in the next 3 weeks…

    • yeah usually lasts until 1 week after game launch

  • +1

JB are currently running a 2 for $30 special for certain PS4 games right now.

Generally speaking, any pre-owned games that EB sells for $28+ should qualify but it helps if the stores are next to each other so you can ask them person.

For reference, I used 'The Occupation' and 'Walking Dead: Final Season'.

  • I've learned to never pre-order games.

Just wait and see if its any good then grab it from whatever launch deal is around.

    • Yeah did that with Cyberpunk (my first ever preorder too). What a dissapointment.

  • What games are you all using?

    • I used Yakuza Like a Dragon (Xbox Series X) and Lego Harry Potter Collection (PS4) (from the 2 for 30 at JB)

Here is a more recent list of eligible games, valid to 14/11/2021- https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/30868/91930/trade_2_se…

I used this list to trade in a few games for Guardians of the Galaxy from EB late last year.

    • FYI I pruned a few more games out of my collection that didn't appear in the list above to trade in when I collected HFW this morning, but turns out they are on the current list, so I ended up bringing them back home & marking them for a future EB deal like this.

They included Mechwarrior on PS5, and on Xbox One:
      A Plague Tale: Innocence
      Greedfall (Launch Edition, no expansion)
      Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
And even Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

The clerk did caution that there's no guarantee that these would qualify for future deals, but if you have a few games that you can part with that didn't appear on the list above, it might be worth your time to check in with your local EB to ask if they are on the current list.

Anyone done any trade ins this week that they can recommend?

  • Can it be any 2 games on list to get Horizon for 49$/39$

    • Depends on the store. The one at Mac Ryde they only accept games that's worth more than $10 regardless of the list.

  • Thanks OP, I traded in 2 games to get it to $39 and then Star Wars Rogue Squadron for $9.90 bring it down to $29.10 for the PS4 version.

The best part of this? All the games I bought ended up on PS Plus so I'm just without the physical games. Win win!

  • Horizon has gone up to $59/$49 PS5/PS4 with 2 trade-ins.

They accepted from me - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Dying Light

I also took a few others in in case they didn't accept them and they would have accepted the following as well.

    The Witcher 3 - $15
    Ghost of Tsushima - $26
    Doom Eternal - $18

I'll use The Witcher and Doom for GT7 and get a further $26 with GoT

  • will there be a similar deal with Kirby?
